I'm sort of in the process of doing the same thing as a money hobby myself . I buy used shirts from thrift places when their on sale for like a dollar or something , and then put cool custom suminagashi designs on then .
For me the trick is LOW OVERHEAD. The adage that is takes money to make money is not always true. You can set up a website free all over the place on the net. Youtube, yahoo groups, googlegroups, meetup, ... also you can wear your art to advertise and when people ask you about it give them your card with your email/site .
Get on Craigslist and in the WANTED section put an add for the supplies you will need . Ask people in the biz about tips .

Find a place to get T-shirts wholesale. I would check clothing stores like Wal-Mart and find out where they send thier overstock. You can buy them by the pallet full!

Think of a name, and come up with a few designs, obtain a logo press (for lack of a better term) and start producing t-shirts and try selling them. Ask for input from people to create an image that is geared towards the public and not a person.

well is a good business ideas, but there are many things you need to keep in mind...are them hand made, or pre made? if you make them yourself or not you need photos of the models you will offer...them get a free web page (later if the money is good you can buy your own site)
then get a business account from paypal so you can take credit card payments...(you can get to my site to get the business link and other ideas) http://tubeth.blogspot.com, I'll be updating it later with more ideas so save the adress and pass it upon friends if you want to.

then you need to place ads and classifieds so you can be known all over the web...always get free stuff so you can save all your money...never pay for ads unless you earn plenty of money. hope this helps you
