Don't mix business with charity. Your business has to survive because it is good at what it does and that can only be achieved by a good workforce. If you don't have that, or if one of your employees can mess up the whole business, all your other workers will end up without a job.
You have to talk to her and explain to her what exactly you expect from her and warn her that if she doesn't comply with that, she will be out of a job.
The rest of your employees will thank you for that. |

some people really believe that they are doing a good job when they are not. You need to have a serious talk with her and clearly line out your expectations. then set her up for success. If she continues to fail write her a verbal warning, a written warning and then fire her. |

As harsh as this may sound...the problem is hers. Yours is to inform her of her job performance/lack of it. As her supervisor, sit her down privately and share your concerns with her as to her lack of work performance; possibly she is not aware of the problem. However, let her know that she has a designated amount of time to improve whatever skills she may be lacking. If she can't/won't make any changes in the way she handles her work responsiblities then, unfortunately, it is your job to terminate her. I don't envy your position, it's easier said than done; but yours is not to keep her on out of guilt or pity, as in doing so, there's a possibility that you could lose your position as well. Hopefully, since I don't know the whole story, she is not using her pregnancy or tiny apartment as a ploy to keep a job she isn't willing to work at. |

I would try to get her motivated to do better first. Give her a written warning stating that if her performance doesn't change for the better, she will be fired. But if that doesn't work, give her a week or two's notice, then fire her. You can feel sorry for her, but she needs to learn a lesson that she can teach her kid. You have to watch out for number one first hand. |

Tell her the truth. Give her the opportunity to improve her work within a certain amount of time,that way if you ultimately have to let her go,she will be prepared emotionally. |
