joleen19842006 | How do i work out gross profit as a percentage? |
if I have £250,000 revenue
£100,000 direct costs
£50,000 indirect costs
what is my gross profit as a percentage??? |

alatoruk
god, some people cant do business maths. gross profit is the bit left over after DIRECT costs, so all those of you who come up with 40% or 66.66% - WRONG!!!!!
250,000 less 100,000 direct costs = 150,000, divide this by 250,000 gives you 60% gross profit.
less 50,000 indirect costs leaves 100,000 which divided by revenue gives you 40% net profit. |

If you take it at £84,000, then you'll go bust quite quickly |

?
100,000/250,000=40% |

66% |

Subtract total costs ( here 150,000 ) from total revenue ( 250,000 ) and divide the remainder ( 100,000 ) by the total costs. Your gross % profit here, then, is 66.6666..% |

40% I TAKE MY TOTAL COSTS AND DIVIDE BY MY REVENUES. TAKE THAT NUMBER AND SUBTRACT THAT FROM ONE. THE REMAINDER IS YOU PERCENT. |

Heinz M
40%
You take all your costs and expenses off the revenue, and divide the remainder by the revenue! |

Gross profit (250K - 100K) = 150K divided by revenue (250K) * 100 = 60% |

the 40% is the correct answer. The 66( .6666%) mentioned is the mark up. The difference between these two is important. The other important thing to
learn is that very few costs are purely fixed or purely variable ( direct/indirect roughly by another name) |
