You work a second job for money and you work for a great designer to gain experience even if you have to work for free to get known! |

Start out by designing and making clothes then sell them to small clothes shops. If you're any good then you might make enough money to start your own shop/business. |

Hi, you could get a job with another designer and work your way up like that. Or you could take the bull by the horns and go out to small shops and show them your designs and ask if they would sell them. I wish you all the luck in the world and if you work hard you will make it.

you might just have to start off working in a retail store.
become an intern for a fashion magazine or for a famous designer!!
go to fashion school and they will probably help guide you! |

That was my career, I designed belts. I made appointments with buyers from Dept Stores. My first really big order was Macy's then Nordstrom . I set up a little warehouse and the rest is history. I had a beautiful showroom on 5th Ave for 17 years. Good Luck |

you network. you go to shows, you meet people, you get names. you send your clothes to the best boutiques and hope somebody somewhere likes them. you make friends with up and coming models and hope they make it big and bring you along. you have to move to a big city - new york, la, paris. you have to learn to deal with rejection and keep pushing until something happens.
basically, you have to work really hard and figure out every possible way to get your stuff out there. in tv and hollywood, a big problem is being "blacklisted." basically, if you piss the wrong people off, nobody will want to work with you. it's important you learn how to handle rejection as politely as possible and keep on trying. the most successful people usually have experienced a bit of good luck, but also have worked very hard. |
