Pay them on time - or certainly keep them in the loop if you are having trouble, give them a chance to quote you for every job you need their materials for (if thats the case), invite the rep in to have a talk...
Even letting them know if you are getting a better deal from someone else is appreciated as they know what they need to do to imptove their service. |

Yes...its been said already: pay them ontime etc...in general long term success comes fom treating customers, suppliers well...building up trust....The crafty sharks think they are so clever when they have stitched someone up but no-one trusts them in the long term. |

Thats simply start buying off them
Try opening a credit account with a small limit keep it in good standing for a few months and apply for an increase.
When you go to the suppliers talk to them everytime which will make them remember you for the next time you go, This is what i did with my local merchants |

There are too many suppliers.They are also in the look out for good customers.You can start with placeing a trial order.If it is good you give regular orders and MAKE PAYMENTS PROMPTLY.You donot rely one suppllier alone.The suppliers must be made slowly aware that you have alternate options.Keep in touch through personal contacts or deputing your assistants.Make them feel that they are important in your business. |

Depends. If you're dealing with a large aircraft manufacturer like one British company that was in the news recently, then you might use a middle man and since you are the customer and parting with your money, you might let him suggest how they could sweeten the deal, e.g. escort girls, money in Swiss accounts, etc.
But since you must be an ethical company, such things would not be countenanced, and other ways are needed. Such as keeping to the terms of the contract of supply, welcoming their sales-staff when they visit, politeness and courtesy at all times, etc. With suppliers of eastern origins, you might up the ante a bit and even entertaining them. A friend of mine has brought his Bangladashi supplier back to his parents' home for dinner when he was in the UK on a visit. |
