Isis | How do you get free flowers from floral shops? |
I go to a very small and poorly funded charter school, and we want to sell flowers on valentines day to help raise money for a school prom or social. I have heard of people getting free flowers from floral shops when they toss the flowers that never sold. Do they still do that and how I would I go about getting donated flowers from floral shops? |

now i don't know if you will be able to get any for free
but mabye you could convince them to give you a discount
first off come up with a list of the reasons why this fun raiser would benifit your school and your students
tell the shop that this could benifit them because your school would give them some free adverstisement and you guys would hang flyers up promoting their business
it would be best to write all of that in a little letter that you could hand to them with a contact number and ect. on it
then i would bring that letter to all of the flower shops near by and personally explain your situation to them
if there are any big name flower shops in the area i would go to them first because they can usually afford to give you the flowers for free/discount
some of the smaller mom and pop type places don't have that type of financial freedom and stabiltiy but they are more local so they may be more willing to help out
i would ask them if you guys could get some flowers donated (even if they were the one's that were not as great a couple of days old ones)
if they say yes then great but if they say that they can't do that i would ask them if they could give you any type of discount since you are buying them in bulk
if they do give you a discount you may want to ask if you can pay them after the fund raiser that way you will have the money if they won't allow that then ask your school for the money and then pay the school back with the fund raiser money

The only way to find out is to go out there yourself and ask the owners of the flower shops....I am sure that if you have enough black and white (like maybe an official letter from the principal etc etc) then some may actually donate their flowers...... you might never know unless you tried....and I am pretty sure there some owners that would actually donate without much questions .... never underestimate the kindness in people and ask cause it certainly is for a good cause. |

Go in at the end of the day, state your story...Make sure it's near the end of the hours. Ask if they have any flowers that are almost going to be off the sale rack due to age. |
