How do you manage people who are elder to you and more smarter than you?

GOOD QUESTION !!!!!

1. Channel you smart & experienced employees in work related tasks that fit their fortaes.
2. Give them challanging jobs and pay tem accordingly as much as possible.
3. When they complete the tasks remind them how important they are to the firm.
4. Use the experience that longivity brings to learn from these people before they retire.
These are guidelines that smart managers use to harness their most valuable asset.....
I hope this helps you.

leave them and attempt to surround yourself with people that will have a more positive influence on your life.

Encourage them to be part of your team. Listen to them, respect them and they will respect you. They can be real asset and be part of your organizational success

You did say "manage" not "control"? If they are truly smarter than you they should know how to be part of the team. Allow each one to do what they do best. And you be the coach. (And cheering section. Everyone loves recognition for doing their job well. Thanks and praise win you more goals than complaints ever will.)

Keeping aside your positional ego, instead of managing them get the cooperation of those elderly persons, who are smarter than you, Give them proper respect. They would definitely prove to be the assets for you in running the business of the organization.

the 'more' smarter is a matter of opinion. they may know more about the actual job or work, maybe even more about life. but you as the manager need a different skill set. you must understand what the work entails, you must not necessarily be as good as your employees are. You need to plan and organize, evaluate and direct and above all, you MUST treat all your employees fair, evenhanded and most important, gain their respect.

They are to be encouraged for the work they do and be pampered for their smartness.Equally, pressure shoud be there on them to deliver and they must understand you mean business.

I would take advantage of the opportunity to learn from them. By tapping into their life experience, you will become a more knowledgable, wise and capable manager.

This in no way undermines your positional authority. You are still their manager, and you have the right to make final decisions. However, if employees feel they have some say in the running of a business, they tend to be happier and more productive, and that will reflect positively on you.

In closing, a gentle criticism: Brush up on your English verbal skills. "More" and "smarter" together create a redundancy. In this case, the adjective "smarter" alone would suffice. When people around you hear such obvious grammatical errors coming from you, they may think you're not as smart as you really are.

Once an English teacher, ALWAYS an English teacher (sigh!).
