How do you put a lien on personal property?
My husband did a shop job on fixing a forklift and the guy hasn't attempted to pay. He's made numerous collection calls but no one returns the calls, and when the customer did he said he would get him the money but that was well over a month ago. Is there a way to put a lien on this lift and when can we sell it to recoup our money?
The key is a "mechanics lien" and do this right away as it does have a time limit to
file - you must find out locally the procedure to do this as they vary from state to state.
This is your best bet and least expensive - and also less time involved - -

he needs an even more aggressive stance; he needs to go to small claims court.
This is a no brainer and the guy with excuses can give those to the judge. With a judgment,
your husband can take the judgment to the sheriff and the sheriff can collect direct from the
client--who is no longer a client.
Going to court MAY sound harsh, but it is not. It is perfunctory.
