Business plan. Learn about writing a business plan, then approach a bank and tell them that you need a loan. They might not give you all you need, and you'll have to risk whatever property you own. If you can find other people to take those same risks with you, then the risk isn't so great per person. Finally, talk to some other owners and ask them every question you can to find out what mistakes you might be able to avoid. Most important: location, location, location. |

Of course, agree with the government first. Then make sure you have enough money to buy things to build a restaurant, like cement, stones, etc. Then you shall have a cook and some waiters. Of course make your restaurant beautiful so customers will go and eat there. |

choose a ideal place where there is a busy mall or famous shopping center near it. That way, when people go to the mall, shop, etc. they will stop by your restuarant on their way back. Then make an ad in the newspaper saying you want people to work. When people get together and apply decide on the menu and prices. Make LOTS of ads. On tv, in the newspaper, on streets, and put a huge banner over your place so people can recognise your place by your banner.
best of luck,

A business plan is a must. But it is more important to have a well developed concept from which to build the business plan. Take time to find a chef and a restaurant manager that embrace the restaurant concept and understand the business plan. Secure enough financing to last at least 1 year or 18 months. Regardless of what most others may say, location is NOT everything. One of the most sucessful restaurants I have ever seen was located in an old and dead warehouse district long before others discovered this "location". Another was a "moving restaurant" on the back of an old truck that move from parking lot to parking lot. The owner's concept was simple, "lowest possible overhead, the freshest shrimp and fish caught that morning". Concept, financing, menu, wait-staff and advertising are more important! |

Start with your local small business development center. Usually they are affiliated with your local community college. They will help you each step of the way.
One other thing: if you are not in a winter resort community do not open your business in the fall or winter. |

1. Decide what type of food you want to serve at your restaurant. Do you want to specialize in a specific cuisine such as Italian, Mexican, Chinese or American?
2. Learn to cook. Even if you won't be doing the majority of the cooking, it's good to have an idea of what is required to prepare the food.
3. Determine how much room you'll need for your restaurant. Will you require specialized seating such as outdoor seating or seating at a bar?
4. Contact a commercial real estate broker to help you locate a suitable location. Restaurants need to have good roadside visibility and plenty of parking.
5. Determine if you will serve any alcohol and what type - beer and wine or a full bar. Check on the requirements for a liquor license.
6. Get a business license. Make sure all local government rules and regulations are adhered to.
7. Contact the department of health to see what specific requirements it has for opening a restaurant.
8. Sign the lease. Most leases are triple net, where the tenant (you) pays for all the operating and maintenance expenses as well as taxes and insurance for the business.
9. Work with an architect to design the layout of your restaurant. Have a general idea of how you want the restaurant to look and function.
10. Hire a licensed contractor to do the remodeling work.
11. Create a delicious menu that will attract customers and keep them coming back.
12. Advertise your restaurant to merchants in the area and in local newspapers with a coupon.
13. Get cooking! |
