followingmybliss | How does anyone of average income afford web design?? |
I have spent weeks doing research to come up with an idea for an e-commerce website, and finally, came up with a good idea. I started contacting good web designers that were recommended to me...and though they said it was an excellent idea...I was SHOCKED to find out how much it would cost!! One said at least $120,000 - 200,000. That is FAR higher than I can afford.
The designer then recommended investors. But where do you find them...and what will that mean as far as ME making any money?? I see a huge risk...not knowing exactly what income the site would generate. So how could I attract investors...and how would I come out with any profit?? VERY confusing all the way around. Help. |

That seems like a ridiculous price. Try this company they are much more reasonable. Tell them what you want and they will work with you.

Try contacting Hotweazel.com for a better price. At $120,000 - $200,000, you can make yourself another Yahoo! |

I had to shortlist web designers for a small project recently. The quotes ranged between £500 and £13,000 for the same piece of work. The most expensive quote came from the least capable designer. The winner of the contract quoted about £5,000 and did a really good job.
A lot of web designers are chancers and cowboys. Make sure you get someone who follows current web design standards. In fact, if they themselves don't bring up the topic of standards don't take them on.
http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace is a good place to look for freelance web developers and http://www.freelancers.com is worth a try. Be prepared to be deluged with ungrammatical replies offering ridiculously low or high quotes.
If it's a complex project don't engage a freelancer, put the project out to tender to design agencies. They will have employees with specialist skills - graphics, databases, html and css etc. But it might cost a bit!
You may well find an out-of-the-box e-commerce package that does the job for you. In which case you might want to pay a consultant to identify which tool to use. |

For more reasonable rates try:
http://www.elance.com
also search the web for templates

Try posting details of your job on designer websites - Designers Talk is a good example of this with plenty of talented (but sarcastic) designers, both freelance or working for agencies. |

if your e-commerce website is like online store with your own preferences i would suggest you look at current online store packages provide by companies who excel in this area. just go to the search engine and query for "create online store". browse thru the listing and do some research whether their services could provide what you need. don't invent thing when other already do it first. you can cut cost a lot just by getting this services from others. in case you need info regarding online biz you can go to my site thru my profile. |

Try www.elance.com. It's web designers/programmers/et cetera from all kinds of different countries, for whom $100 is a decent sum of money. For $500, you'll have your pick of groups who... well, they may not speak the best english, but they sure can sling code.
Hope that helps. |

Yahoo sells a starter business package with shopping cart for $300.
Or you can sell stuff on eBay for a listing fee and a commission.
Obviously you are attempting something more sophisticated.
If you trying to save some $$ you should find someone with programming knowledge, possibly a student at a local college.
There's usually a way to start with some canned ecommerce templates and add a small amount of customization.
It could still cost $2000 or $5000 but you should be able to generate enough revenue to "bootstrap" your business.
If you don't want to tell us about your idea, can you point us to some sites which have similar features?
Good luck,
- CarlD |

look for free lance web designers. if the designer you are talking to is famous then that would really be expensive. look for ojt or people still in school to lessen the expenses. |
