I have worked in accounting for about 2 years now. I enjoy it. There is a lot to learn, but you do most things on your own, with little interruption. Plus, numbers are usually straight forward and with all the programs out there it is relatively easy to check and fix any mistakes. |

Some of each I suppose. Depending on your job.
Most of it is just simple math but then on the other hand, adding all those 9's (gas is $2.73 and 9/10) winds up being a headache.
I guess it depends on where you are in life. |

Accounting is tedious, repetitive and exacting. If you are a perfectionist who likes to have everything in their neat little rows and are not really a "people person" you might like it. Around tax time you work sometimes 14-16 hour days. Most of the time you have a nine to five day that you don't take home with you, which is nice. How simple it is depends on the type of thinkng you do and your math and organizing abilities. My son in law this spring got a dual masters in accounting and MBA. He has a CPA equivalent but would have to do a year internship that he is not willing to do because he can't have the loss of income He is really more into the financial planning area and works with a company where he does both and handles client's investments and budgets as well, plus he seeks clients for the company and also teaches financial planning and insurance classes, but come tax time he is into that as much as ever. So if you are also a people person you might want to look into something like this. |

If you like working with numbers its a breeze, but in my opinion, accounting is a too fast paced and if you make one little small tiny mistake, youre in big trouble. |

I do basic accounting at work... sometimes. Kinda boring, but easy. Good money if you make a career out of it. |

I've been in the accounting field (bookkeeper & staff accountant) for 30+ years and it can be challenging at times but after doing it for so long, I can tell you it's not rocket science. I'm not a CPA but I understand the exam is difficult and I know how to do basically what CPA's do except prepare corporate tax returns because I'm unfamiliar with all the laws.
The big thing right now is Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. You don't have to be a CPA to get into it but it's in high demand right now and the trend will probably continue. |

it depends on what sort of acctg u r doing...A/R & A/P easy...but if u r doing probability and stastical acctg then it gets difficult..u have to be a mathmatician then. But generally it's easy...all about Adding up Revenues and Expenses and then subtract your Expenses from Revenue to get you NOI (net operationg income) it's quite easy. |
