I don't think it's really a matter of age but more a matter of maturity. You could be 16 years old and parents won't trust you with their kids simply because you immature and irresponsible.
That being said, I would gather than the average age for baby-sitters is 14 to 15 years of age....again, depending on their maturity. |

I think you have to be older than the age of 12 or 13 because it's law that a 12 year old cannot be left alone in a house if they are 12 years old or younger. |

I started when I was 11, but it is a very different world now than it was then. I would say you could start babysitting when your parents see you as responsible enough to do so and when you demonstrate the ability to look out for yourself. Then you should be able to look out for others. |

i dont think the state matters.i say 13 is good.im 13 and i actually have a babysitting job tommorow.take a course from the red cross tho,it helps a lot. |

In my opinion it should have to do with maturity. Are you mature enough to be responsible for another person? I would not hire anyone younger than 16 to babysit my kids, but that's just me. I think the legal age is younger. |

I babysitted my brother quite young. But I started babysitting other kids at 15. But I also got alone with my brother well. |

I would suggest about 12/13ish. That's when I started babysitting for some of my neighbors. Of course they didn't have really young babies...mostly 3-8 yr olds. |

I'm sure it is not written down anywhere the appropriate age for babysitting, but if you are mature enough, I would say at the age of 13. |
