This changes from state to state. In California you need to be 18 to serve alcohol in a restaurant. I'm not sure if the same requirement exists for stores since the alcohol is unopened. Seems like it should since it would be hard to convict a minor of selling alcohol to a minor and thereby contributing to the delinquency of a minor (who would actually be the first minor's peer).... hmmmmmm

I used to work in a grocery store that sold coolers and beer with small amounts of alcohol, and I was under 18, but to work somewhere that has the "real" stuff, probably 18.

You do not have to be a different age from any other retail person, but you will have ti have sales of alcohol checked by a senior staff member.
