How to deal with this rude customer?
Dealing with rude customer in this situation..?
alright. I have this customer who is being so rude and unreasonable. It was so busy, he said he has a group of 5 but they are waiting for the other 2.when I gave them the drinks he told they were ready to order. I couldn't hear them. So I tend the next table beside them who were ready to order.
And this guy. He was so rude. He yelled at me that he is ready to order and scolded me that he was there before the other.
I apologized and explained that I didn't heard him and thought they will order when the other 2 come. He still keep complaining and scold me saying that he is a 10 years regular customer. So sucks. What kind of person is this. I already apologized with a total good manner. Still can't believe that he is behaving so...
tell me how should I deal with this kind of similar problem in the future, in case I have such customer again.

There are some customers who will always be like that. I work in a call centre and I get that a lot. I don't know how you cope face to face!! Usually what kills them is kindness. I find it hard to deal with them too... But my bf said to me "at the end of the day, you don't need to live with them, you know that you're not like that" So now I just try to do my best, be as nice as I can to them as possible, and a lot of the time they back off or change their attitude. If you give it back to them, they are 10 times worse. Some people though, like your customer, are always like that... Just don't drop down to their level & you can be confident in yourself that you did the right thing.

Really all you can do since you are a server at a resteraunt is to just ignore the behavior, keep a smile on your face, and hope they leave a good tip.

Some people are just jerks like that and expect the worst out of people. If you don't want this to happen again, make sure to ask them if they're ready instead of waiting for them to say it. It seemed like you handled it in the best way you could, and I would have done it no different. But remember not to show that you're intimidated. Be confident, but not arrogant. Don't fight back.

If he was just mad then no big deal, but if he is insulting you, you should defend yourself in a professional manner. Life is too short to be pushed around. Say what you have to say and take it with a grain of salt. He isn't someone important anyway.

Honestly, I know it's easier said than done but NEVER take anything customers do personally. You did the right thing by apologizing, even if you have no reason to be sorry, just do it to humor them.

Let a manager know what's going on as soon as possible, that way they'll know what's up in case the customer requests to speak to him. Sometimes I've had managers go as far as keep an eye on the belligerent customers and refuse service.

Usually they are just people who're taking their frustrations out on the wrong people, or individuals who get a kick out of making someone else's life miserable. Most people who use the "I've been a loyal customer here xx years" line are full of crap.

Going by your story - you did the right thing in appologizing.

The behaviour is puzzling, especially since he indicated that they were waiting for 2 more people.

How to deal with this?
1) make sure you didn`t make a mistake, or if you did (like not hearing them) appologize.

2) let it slide of. 10 year customer or 10 minute customer - they need patience. If this person spoke true that he is a 10 yer regular customer (what is regular, once a year?) then he should know that you may not always be on 'superspeed mode'.

Also, in a restaurant setting, noise levels are never constant (except if you take it as "noisy"). If it is obvious the waiter / waitress didn`t hear me - i make sure to wave, or in an other fashion get his/her attention (stand up and walk towards them and ask "can you take our order") if i`m in sort of a hurry.

Please, do not let this idiot get to you.
Especially when he starts yelling (and if you didn`t spill hot coffee on him :P) he was way out of line.

Tell him to please calm down, because otherwise you will not be able to take his order.
If he refuses, call your manager, explain the issue - and let him handle it. Talk with your manager after closing time, or in a quiet spell - to discuss future tactics with rude people.

Tell Him : I'm sorry Sr. I already told you that I didn't hear. I'm sorry for my mistake. May I have your order? if He stills complaining, then tell Him: I'll call somebody else to help you, and left. Go and call some of your co-workers to help you with this costumer, or call your supervisor to help you. Good Luck, and I'm sorry that this happened to you because you were very polite, and you didn't deserve how he treated you.

wow that is tuff. assholes are a dime a dozen, i'm sorry you have to deal with it. it sounds like you did everything right. he's living by "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" rule. the only thing I can say...is maybe keep your ears open in your busy enviorment by trying to tune in to the assholes and keep them happy. i am in customer service, it's not easy and kudos to you for dealing so well. Also, your manager (any good manager) must know this 10 year customer, and take pity on you that you have to deal with him. unless you are a total goof, his opinion will only mean a lesser tip. do not ever let an asshole define who you are. good luck to you!
