"If you build it, they will come" is not necessarily true on the Web. Putting a website up is one thing, but getting visitors to come to your site is another. The process becomes even more difficult if you have limited resources to market your business.
Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:
1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement - if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.
2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important -- and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more - that's additional traffic that you get for FREE!
3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

One of the best advertising methods I use came from a message stuck on an empty space on a London Bus.It read "This Bus Travels 1000 Miles Each Week: To Advertise On This Bus tel: London Transport blah blah blah." Now I don't live in England any more but the system works. Get a transfer and stick it on the back of your car window and on your driving and passenger doors. You will have a travelling sandwichboard. Every time you go out, stop at lights, park etc. Your "Visit My Online Store at www.mybusiness.com" will be sreaming at everyone for no cost to you. Wow, are happy with the sugar coated answers thus far? Than skip this one. I don't sugar coat things!
It screams "I am Cheap - Yahoo!!"
1) Get one straight domain name. No dashes, people do not remember the dashes, they remember the name.
2) get rid of anything with the name Yahoo on it. IF your paying for that site, you don't need to be advertising them. If you are not paying for hosting, it shows.
In many peoples mind Yahoo means cheap/free or if a business, its a scam.
3) there is NOTHING on the first page that says why I should buy from you other than free shipping and you use pay-pal. Whoopee!
Do you specialize in last minute gift ideas/ immediate, tailored gift wrapped shipping? Drop shipping? What? Why??
4) What do the banners at the bottom of the page have to do with your store? What will they do for me while I am shopping for a gift? Again, they scream to the customer that you are not a professional.
Banners should enhance the page and what the customer is there for. if I am there to buy gifts, why would I click a link for site submissions??
I will close with this: Get a real website, get a better domain name and make it about the customer, not about your wallet and sales will increase. Add meta tags, fix the keywords and sales will increase.
Spread the word and you will be one happy webmaster. |

If you want to increase your traffic to your website you have to make certian that you use meta tags in your website design. That is what makes the search engines pick up your particular site. You might want to sell a thing or two on ebay. |
