How to get info from a business about the way it treats its employees?
I have a term paper that requires me to observe and comment on the way businesses empower and encourage their employees and the business' managerial structure. Does anyone have any advice as to what type of business (e.g. private or public, sole trader or partnership etc.) would be more willing to give out this type of information and how I can contact these businesses and ask them for this information (e.g. do I just walk in and ask an employee how his/her business treats him or him and what benefits the business provides to its employees

I suggest you pick a few companies and contact their human resources departments and talk with them. You may want to ask if you can get a copy of their employee handbook, or their employee policies. Not all companies will pass this information out, but it is generic and would help you. That in itself might show you something about a company.

Vault.com has many company comments, many from employees on how the business treats its employees and customers.

You talk to the employees - or contact the human resources department of a corporation. Many will be more than happy to provide information to you as a student. (Check them online as well, information can be found regarding benefits and corporate climate.)

I'd go straight to the employees if you want a straight answer. You could even ask people in your life you know and take a survey of all of them to get a feel for a range of business types and companies. As far as benefits go, you can often find these in the "Job Opportunites" section of a company's website.

Good luck with your term paper!

Businesses usually do not divulge their treatment of employees; however, there is a list of the 100 best employers in the United States, google it. Also, you can interview the employees, they will usually give you the scoop on their employers.

Speak to the HR department of any large company. Most will have stats on Equity issues etc. In some cases, by law, this info is to be made available upon request ( names removed)

Gary D
The employees would probably not be willing to answer that type of questiopn on the record. My suggestion would be to contact a large company's HR department...places like Dell, IBM, HP, Disney, Sears, BP Oil, etc. They will have information that you can use and they will also most likely have metrics (data) about their company's staff and it's demographics (ratios of race, sex, age, sexual orientation, handicap, etc.).

Smaller companies are not likely to retain such information, but the larger ones will be very glad to boast about what they do to keep their employees happy.

Try www.vault.com. It gives some inside info on companies.

There are surveys done on this every year.

Google "top 100 companies to work for"

No business is going to tell you they treat people terribly.

Ask M
you poor thing, no company is going to admit on how
they treat their employees !!!! They will lie to you
so it doesn't matter what company you pick
