Perhaps you should put some money to one side for a while before you start your child minding business. That way if things are tight you have your savings as a safety net. |

Hello,
(ANS) I have experience of starting up two small limited companies working in the computer support industry. There are several important lessons I learnd from my own failures.
No.1 I would say to you that you MUST do the maths and look carefully at the numbers BEFORE you make any definite business commitment to go ahead and start your child minding business.
No.2 Many small business start ups fail because they just run out of money to grow the business (which is what happened to me) i.e. you have to have enough money to carry on trading, or to put it another way i.e. cash flow.
No.3 Get you clients first BEFORE you actually establish a business, once you have money coming in then and only then should you start to think about forming a legally recognized business.
No.4 Competition, never under estimate the local conditions for your business and who else might be trading and working in the same business.
No.5 Expect the unexpected!!, there are many things that when you start a business of your own you cannot see coming or you have never considered. Such unexpected things almost always add extra costs to running the business and thus its vital to have enough funds in reserve to cover them. Otherwise unexpected events could put you out of business in a short time.
**something like 85% of small business start ups fail in the first 3 years of trying to get off the ground.
**DO go and talk with your local "business link" about your start up ideas and aims, they are extremely good people and will listen to your ideas and make all kinds of positive suggestions. They can also give you a reality check and tell you if your ideas are realistic in the first place.
**Its the other way around a) you must have some method or means to carry on paying your mortgage whilst starting up your new business. Until such time that you have enough cash flow to cover those costs too.
**It might be worth asking the mortgage company what or if there might be some kind of flexibility on running a business from part of your house and as such would that be allowed under your existing mortgage arrangement?
Hope that is useful?
Kind Regards Ivan |

Then save up some money - it doesn't take a genius to work that one out. If what you are doing is risky (and you seem to think it may be initially), then you you need a financial cushion. |

Ah now there's the rub. Have you spoken to your local Lec's business start-up advisor and remember if you are under 25 you can get help from the Princes trust for business start-up.
Check this out as I think the age threshold for the Princes Trust has been raised. You will find your local business start up in the phone books or phone your local careers office.
All the best. |

The government gives away free money to WOMEN who are wanting to start their own businesses, especially at home. All you have to do is fill out the paperwork and send it in. Tons of programs so apply to all that fit your needs. There are tons of government websites that do this, just search out free government money. |

If you don't have enough money, you may want to wait before starting the business. You need to have enough money so you don't have to worry about anything else.
Good luck. |
