:::hearts HanKyung::: | How would I attract YOU to my business? |
Hii my parents own a Chinese food takeaway, business has always been lousy and the economy in the UK isn't helping.
There must be, what, 3 or 4 other Chinese takeouts in the area. How do I attract people like you to my takeaway and not the others? Aside from good food (because I have no control over that!) and a clean environment?? Additional Details Great stuff so far.. I'll share this with my rents. Thanks everyone (: |

Good food, clean environment are good.
Have a friendly and inviting store front that stands out from the others.
Give good value for the price. That doesn't mean that the prices are lower than the others, but that people feel that they got more than they paid for when they came to your restaurant. That might mean better service, or bigger portions, or dishes that the others don't offer, or cuter waitresses, or a hostess or manager that greets repeat customers by name.
Offer a deal for repeat customers. Maybe a card that gives them a free entree on their 10th visit, or a 2 for 1 deal after buying 5 dinners, for example. |

Advertise. When the economy worsens, people cut back on advertising. It's the wrong thing to do. If the economy is bad for you, it's bad for your potential customers as well. Advertise, offer discounts with coupons, 2 for one specials, anything that will cause the consumer to come to you for value. When they do get there, treat them like kings...and thank them for coming without being gushy. |

You can advertise your business online and offline.
List the things that your restaurant offers and other do not. How's it different from others, why should ppl visit you etc.
Advertise online on related forums, restaurant reviews website, post on free classifieds like http://www.khrido.com/ and http://www.craigslist.org Participate in related forums
Advertise offline like print business cards, make contacts, offer meal deals etc. Word of mouth will help. Meals deals for kids etc. |

You could offer special deals, i.e. buy 5 meals and get one free
Coupons are always helpful.
Ask customers to complete surveys about your restaurant - if they complete them, give them a free drink or cheap dessert.
Use your imagination! |

I am always attracted to some place that makes me feel like it is really authentic. A place that places a cheap statue of a Buddha on the counter and a hanging lamp in the corner is not going to get my business. Make me feel I just experienced the Asian culture! Just a thought. |

I am currently studding business and the only way you can attract more custom to your self's and not to any Competition, is to make your business unique. Decorate, put new and Fancy furnishings in and most of all plants for a fresh smell but don't keep the walls wight. Good look |

Im glad I stumbled across your question.
I run a small business and we had a busy lunchtime. It was about 1:45 to busy to go out to get lunch so I thought I would order some in. Guess what I couldn't. Most of the restaurants were not opened for lunch or did not deliver during lunch. I had pizza because they were opened and delivered.
I also find that if you are really good you will get repeat custom, if not you wont. Try to start a tracking system for your customers, keep and compare phone numbers, get email addresses and send emails, it cost nothing.
Something which I think would be good as well is if you do a tasting, take 3,4,5 or more streets, make up a small tasting cup or dish and go around, it doesn't have to include the meat, so the costs are kept down and it does not have to be all at once, one street a week or something.
I regularly order Chinese food and am always looking for a better one. Compare your competitors, order one dish from each one and Computer it with your own. Be objective, there is no point in lying to yourself or your parents, if its not good people wont reorder and your competitors will profit. Environment and furnishing don't make a difference, good food wins every time. |

If business is really hurting and your in a market with alot of competition you need something dramatic to separate yourself from the others.
Put in big bold letters on the front window. NO MSG... and NO CATS!
You should get a few laughs out of that and that should translate to some more business!
My suggestion may be a bit out of the ordinary... but remember you need to do something to draw in customers and make them think of you rather than the competition. |

One thing no one has mentioned so far is the attitude of the staff (especially that of the owner(s)).
In many of the Chinese restaurants I have patronized the people behind the counter give the impression that customers are an inconvenience to be disposed of as quickly as possible.
I think that in many cases it is because the staff isn't comfortable dealing with non-chinese customers. Encourage everyone to speak English as much as possible. Make sure that the staff smile at the customers, greet them, thank them for coming in and say a pleasant good-bye when they leave.
People like to do business in places where they feel appreciated. It doesn't cost anything and it can pay big dividends.
Hope this helps
