One thing I can say is that there are a lot of people out here pitching their deal as being the greatest and you have certainly got a lot of ideas to chose from.

Actually, I am not going to make a 'company recommendation'. I am going to recommend that you take all these suggestions and do some research before you JUMP into something.

If you are new to network marketing, which is what the majority of people are promoting, there is more to it than just picking a company. Comp plans and Policies & procedures are what makes or breaks a rep.

For instance, using one of the suggestions here.... they don't tell you that in order to continue to earn money you have to consistently sign new people up, but it is in the P&P's. Most people don't read that stuff and don't realize that many companies use that document against their reps.

I wrote a blog on advice for working from home and would invite you to give it a read. You can find a link in the 2nd paragraph of my profile here on answers. It is ALL generic info and NOT a commercial for a company as many blogs end up being. It's just helpful tips, tricks and ways to ensure that you find something that will actually be successful for you.

There is also a link to a document called "The MLM Legality Test". I would certainly read that one as it was written by a very well known MLM attorney.

I honestly believe that people should learn a bit about the business over all before they jump in, but not many people do, and not many ask questions about what they are in until after they have signed up for something that sounded HOT and then not been successful, so it is good that you are asking some questions up front.

I have spent a great deal of time studying different business opportunities and would be glad to generically help you if you if you run into something you don't understand.

If you are an accomplished typist - word processor and have recently visited your local city college or university librarian, you can apply as a "certified" graduate typist, earning between $1.50 to $2.00 per page for a master or doctoral thesis. I agree with Jennifer. Whenever I choose to answer these posts, I feel like I am the only voice of reason beyond the hype of network marketing company after another.

Network marketing can be an excellent business opportunity, for the right person, but you should definitely learn more about the industry before you join.

If you want to start a home based business, realize that no matter what someone else tells you and no matter what business opportunity you choose, you will have to "invest" in three things in order to be successful:

1. Time
Figure on a year to replace an income, if done properly. Can be a lot less time, depending on your learning curve

2. Effort
You have to work your business as a business. It will not fall into your lap

3. Money
Yep. Everything costs money. Pay for the education, the program, advertising, etc. You can do this for a low cost compared to an offline business, but it will cost money.

I don't know where your interests lie, but if you have a hobby or skill you are passionate about, you might consider building a content based website. You can do it with no knowledge of design, coding, html, etc. And you can do it relatively inexpensive, for around $300 a year.

If that doesnt float your boat, maybe network marketing would be a good industry for you. But again, research BEFORE you decide.

In my limited experience I have found that the only way to be successful in a home business is to be excited about what you are doing. So choose something that you are interested in, then look around and find options in that area. Next is to decide which of those options will work best for you. Remember that working from home takes discipline you have to set hours for yourself and try to stick to them. We all know sometimes life throws a curve ball, but you don't get paid if you don't work .. just like a regular job. :)
