well first off, you're 13.. there aren't any places that I know of that will hire you. Maybe you can try mowing lawns or doing things for other people who don't have the time to do it. Walking their dogs, baby sitting. ETC. |

I think the best job for you would be a Mother's helper or a babysitter. When my kids were young I would have loved someone to play with my kids and give me a minute to myself. Even someone to go grocery shopping with me to help keep an eye on the kids. I never could find anyone just by word of mouth so you would have to advertise. Make fliers and bring them around your neighborhood, tell everyone you know that you are looking for something like this. List everything you can do. I will watch your children and give you some time to yourself. Need an extra hand at the grocery store - I can help!! I bet you will be busy with it after awhile. Good Luck!!!! |

Do a baby-sitting, tutoring, work in a store or a restaurant is good ideas for a small age. I think the tutoring is the easiest one to get. Ask school for referral, put an ad in newspapers, or post on-line. People will find you if you are good in some studying areas. |

Try to see if your high school or community college has CPR training or baby-sitting classes (train you in infant CPR, general care of children and infants and other emergency proceedures) they will CERTIFY you, and that will be your credential/ credibility that you are trained to care for young children. You can solicit people with young children to baby-sit for them. The best/ safest way for a young girl to do this is to post an advertisement on your church's bulletien board. You can also post at the elementary school. Be sure to ALWAYS require an interview: this will help you decide if you WANT to babysit for these people or their child. Also, it's no secret you want to get PAID, you must tell them your rates and hours you can baby-sit. Depending on where you live, you should find out what is reasonable BEFORE you babysit, or else 'reasonable' to them could be .25 cents each child, an hour for 4 kids!
Typical rates are $3 an hour, per child. Sometimes after midnight (only on nights you are allowed by YOUR parents, probably only friday and saturday) the rates DOUBLE to $6 ever hour each child. |
