I have hired Inflatables for years. There is a lot of measures you must take but its not that daunting. I would look at joining BIHA which offers great advice on setting up a business. You would be best advised also to get some insurance. There are only a handful of insurers, I have tried them all and the best is a company called Peacock. I will try and put a link in here to them both. http://www.peacockinsurance.co.uk/bouncy-castle-insurance.aspx and "http://www.biha.co.uk"
Hope this Helps.

Get a standardised risk assessment form done so you can hand it to the licensing people as needed.
Point to note - do not let adults and kids on at the same time - several injuries (=expensive court cases) reported where mum = 3 times toddler weight drops from 3 feet shoots kiddywink nearly 10 feet. |

WITH COMPLETE HONESTY:
(Fourcandles is right - diesel, not petrol...)
I would, without wanting to make you into a sales business (Like me), suggest finding an existing bouncy-castle business and selling their services. You avoid a lot of responsibility that way.
Having said that, almost every business has a sales aspect to it (Like mine) so if you can restrict your responsibilities whilst still pursuing the actual activity you are attracted to, you're winning from the start. HONESTLY - restrict your responsibility and complication for a good startup business.
!! MOST IMPORTANTLY !!
See a local FREE business advisor - ask "Business link for Essex" for your most local council-run advisor. People dis the council and government but they're REALLY out to help if you find the right PART of them. They'll help you across the pitfalls - pitfalls are the worst - I know!
(nicnocs seems to know his Biz - If he had a really good seller of his services or two, he might find good overall profits - Economies of scale count for a lot) |

Good thinking, I know someone who did that.
You will need Public Liability Insurance, so you'll need to make a huge wad to cover THAT bill. |

Our council requires all suppliers of bouncy castles have a minimum of £10MILLION insurance. Also they do not allow petrol generators, only deisel.
If you are going to do it, do your homework. There are quite a few people out there already. Could you get a regular pitch at a boot sale or similar? |

Ring Rik Waller's agent - he could use the work, then find a field and off you go.. |

just started doing this myself, my advice is consider all aspects before buying your castle, they are huge 12x12 weighs 60kg ok if you got a van not so easy if you have a car! and you need storage, check out liability insurance, you got to have this in order to trade and can be expensive. You have to have your castles requlated once a year by PIPA they inspect castle to ensure ok for rental, consider safety equipment such as sand bags and crash mats, get yourself a good disclaimer written up have one signed at each rental. all that said and done there is good money to be made, advertising in the paper can be a bit pricey, but you only need a couple of booking and that is covered. Liability insurance is the thing, the more castles you have the more insurance you pay thats why Ive been told a lot of people are pulling out. E bay is a good place to look for castles, make sure the castle has all the necessary paperwork before you bid. The Bouncy Castle Company you can find them online have a lot of useful information. good luck hope this helps. |
