You're right at the age where you're old enough (and maybe responsible enough) to have a job, BUT not legally old enough to be hired. So why don't you try babysitting? dog walking? grocery delivering? running small errands on a bike?

Just a thought - perhaps you could start your own business advertising for local companies. Since you are all ready going to be delivering the paper it would be easy to carry advertisement flyers for places like your local pizza, gas station, convenience store etc. Contact the Managers and see if they have flyers already made that they would like to have delivered- if you're crafty with your computer make up samples and price lists to take with you when you meet with store owners. Ask your parents to assist you in contacting printing shops for price lists. They will also need to assist you with creating a contract for your services. Be sure to have your parents read any contracts you plan to make before you make the offer (above all - always proof read! and have an adult proof read also!) Because you are a minor the contracts may not be considered binding without a guardians signature also. Good Luck on your new ventures! |

Doubt if you can work in a pub (obvious), nor a library as it's local authority. You would have to help out at a private business if they were in a position to pay you out of the back pocket. Otherwise there could be insurance and employment legislation to consider.
Large food shops always need shelves to be restocked for quick turn round. |

Go and see Careers. You are too young for most jobs because of restrictions on time you have to finish. Can't work in video shops or pubs, have to be 18. The Jobcentres will turn you away, they deal in 18+ only. Careers will be able to point you in the right direction but I'm afraid not much open for you legally. If you decide to take a job that is illegal then be it on your own head. The rules that are in place are there to protect the youth of today from unscrupulous employers. |
