I will be 51 this year. I have a small business that, until six months ago, published magazines. We started as a transportation company, twenty years ago. Since our only customer went out of business last year, we've spent these months going back into the trucking business. This time, the cargo is people. We have a very small fleet of Dodge Sprinters that we transport wheelchair patients in. We've had to sell equipment to buy vehicles. We've had to redesign all of our accounting and clerical procedures, and...the one that hurts the most...I've had to tell friends that they don't have a job anymore. We've had good times. We've had bad times. We have never been in this position, in twenty years. The thing that is saving us is our ability to adjust quickly. My advice to you is to do the same. If you can't make $1,500 a week anymore, you'll have to learn to live on $500. We sold our house and moved to an apartment. We got rid of the big car payment. Start making changes now before things get worse....drivers can make $15 an hour. You can pay bills with that. |

Take a lesson from the immigrants and learn to live with less. Americans often get wrapped up in the living beyond their means to have it all while people from other countries are used to living with less and happy with what they do get rather than wanting more and more. If the handyman business isn't doing it for you, why not consider retraining yourself where your skills, experience and passions can help to support you. You cannot live in the past. The printing industry is dead. It's time to look at tomorrow's products and services and be on the forefront in providing those products and services to those who want and/or need them. In the meantime, consider your lifestyle and make a few cuts in what you buy. Learn to seperate your wants and needs and realize that if you can't have the best of everything, make the best of everything you have. |

Dear Sir,
I don't completely understand. You were in the color printing business and have skills in color printing- but the Internet killed your business? Interesting. I know next to nothing about the printing business but is it possible you can use the Internet to get back into the printing business? If you can't beat them with your own weapons, use their own against them. Internet business do have great prices but they lack physical presence- an enterprising person might find the cheapest Internet printing provider and present their products/services creatively on a local level. It is very difficult to find (or know you have found) the best deal on printing in the Internet- I know this to be a fact- I still don't know what the best deal is and I get things printed a lot. Try that. Start your own printing business but out source ALL of the labor. Peace and may the hand of God be upon you. |

I work from home using the internet and phone. One of the niche markets I assist is baby boomers like yourself. I have several baby boomers as partners who are doing wonderfully well and on their way to financial freedom, working a few hours from home. (Check my profile).
To succeed in this business, you must be open to learning, put in some efforts, be committed and persistent in growing your business. The potential to earn is very high if you are committed and can work on your business at least 3-4 hours a day.

Sir, you have one of the questions that is too hard to answer. But that's alright. Here is my advise, don't fear jobs that are about to exert to much effort, that is one of the jobs today. Some people still go to factory jobs in the age of 60 in our country. And what ever may happen to your future and it is going well, keep it up.
