I need help finding legitimate sites to get started. I have tried many sites that offer Minority Grants and grants for Women but they didn't pan out. I just don't know where else to start. I'm not quite sure what you are seeking, if it is finances to get started or ideas. I don't know your talents or interest so I will offer two solutions. If you need financial backing to start something you have in mind already go to your bank or any local bank that works with the SBA (small business administration) and sit down with the rep and explain what it is you want to do. The SBA has programs geared just for minorities and women. You might want to take a look at the telecommunication industry. There's a lot of money to be made in this industry. My husband and I started our own business over six years ago in this and it's just incredible. We partnered up with a 15 year old world wide company that offers services that people use every day and pay for anyway. Services like land lines, video phones, digital phones, VOIP, Internet, Satellite T.V., and all the major cellular phone providers have partnered up with them as well. Let me ask you this question, how many people do you know, or know of that use these types of services? If you could make a percentage of everyone's payments and be able to lower their costs on all these services, think about how much money you could make off of everyone's telecommunications services. Helping them save money and make money too. It's an incredible amount of income to be made, and very simple to do. If you'd like more information on this, feel free to email me.

I say forget the web and go out into the community. Ask around Native communities, yours especially, to see what services are offered to help you out.
As for ideas, try anything that can tie in with being Native, as it's a niche. For example if you started selling organic goods, marking them as Native would possibly get you an edge in sales as people acquaint Natives with being closer to the land.
Reforestation, Native arts and crafts, those sorts of things. Something that will put you into a niche market. |

I bet there are government initatives for native americans to start a business. But I don't know how to find it. If you live on or near a reservation I bet there is a chamber of commerce that can help you. |

Have you thought about selling Tupperware? It is your own business. Tupperware lends you the name. There is a small start up cost. You sell tupperware at home parties and earn money. You can also sell it on-line, catalog only, or Fundraising. You add recruits to your team, 3 recruits you become manager than 6 you become star manager and so on. The rewards are great. You should look for help from the community counsel for your tribe.
Go to the library and ask questions, they should have a section geared toward careers.
