keep track of where you spend your money. examine this carefully and critically. e.g., i love starbucks coffee. i downloaded my bank statement (i buy everything with my debit card) and noticed that i was spending $200 a month there on brewed coffee! so, i bought a pot ($120) and 4 pounds of coffee, and broke even the first month! now i buy 4 pounds of coffee each month, and save around $150.
now: make a budget! put 10% of gross for savings at the TOP OF THE LIST AND PAY THAT FIRST! then, pay your bills. examine them critically, and see which ones you really don't need. for example, do you really need the phone company's unlimited nationwide long distance on your land line when your cell phone offers it as part of their plan?? cut to the bone! it is your money, keep as much as you can!
NOW you can party with what's left.
biggest problem is, without a budget, you have no idea where it's going, so, no matter how much you make, it'll disappear as fast as you get it!

I agree - stop spending money. I just went thru this with my daughter - do not go to Starbucks or anywhere else - do not buy lattes, do not get your nails done, do not get pedicures. Do not pay someone to color your hair. Do not go out to lunch - bag it. Do not go out to dinner - cook at home. Do not buy soda - drink water. Do not buy CDs or DVDs - get DVDs & books from the Library. Do not go to the Mall. Do not buy on line. Do your own laundry and ironing. If you have Dry Clean only clothing buy dress shields or wear a cami so you do not have to take it to the Dry Cleaner after every wearing. Cut your utility bills by turning off lights. Wash your own car. Do not go out drinking with your friends.
Try this for 2 months - you will have cash - my daughter did - about $800. She was then at a place where she could BUDGET her money & enjoy some treats some of the time. |

Where there is a will, there is a way. Most people are broke because they dont realise that they are broke. Job is good to have till better things come along. Never trust the job as secure. There is no such thing called security in the job as the employer can fire the employee any time with 5 minute notice. Starting a small business with no capital investment and setting a game plan to implement and work accordingly during the weekends and weekdays evenings without affecting the job schedule and working partime can create significant income. There is one such business in my knowledge called financial industry business. Helping people understand how money works will eventually lead you to make money. That is the reason, poor people are always poor and rich get richer. there are plenty of ways to cut back on unnecessary expenses. instead of going to the movies, just rent one.........dont eat fast food anymore, learn to cook for yourself. when ur not in a room of ur house, shut the lights off. if u have enough space, get a roomate to help with rent or mortgage. instead of having a huge cable package, just get the basic cable and perhaps a few other channels u love. instead of high speed internet, go back to having dial-up! as many times as possible, walk, ride a bus, or ride a bicycle instead of using ur car. see what i mean? and most IMPORTANTLY save!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can have money automatically taken from your paycheck every month to be placed in a savings account that can only be touched once every 5 yrs. even if you just saved $40/paycheck, thats still $10,400 at the end of 5 yrs not to mention the interest that would add up with it! $10,000 goes a lonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg way towards a dream vacation, a new car, or a down payment on a house! also, one of my favorite ways to save money is by shopping at kmart, target, big lots, the dollar store and even GOODWILL! there is nothing wrong with buying previously owned stuff, even clothes. the only previously owned things i wouldnt buy are undies and shoes lol. good luck, and hope these tips helped u! |

Try creating a budget for yourself based on past spending, and make sure your budget only allows you to spend as much or less than what you make. Then if you still want extra cash flow, try selling things on eBay or get a temp job through a temp agency. |

Write down where every dollar you spend goes for 3 months. It is agonizing, but you will learn you probably already make enough money, just adjust your priorities.
If it sounds like I am speaking from experience your right. When I made $8 an hour, I was so careful I always had enough even for a little savings. As time went on I earned more, but I was being being less mindful of my spending. I was making $28 an hour with no budget and less savings. |
