I am taking you seriously.
To answer your question in just a few sentences here is virtually imposible. There is a proven system in place as to how you should evaluate your own business.
The most of all you have to know what you want and what you are expecting to gain from your own business. If you are just as seriousabout your future as I am, contact me at GMAIL address listed in my profile. |

do lots of research...make sure that the service your business is providing can be of great use. Also advertise like crazy the first year you're there (get the word out that you're there)
.... be careful of people trying to ask for money. When you own a business you get harassed daily by organizations and people wanting donations and money..you could go broke this way. Also spend wisely the first year (since you don't really know if you'll make it) Lastly hire a damn good accountant..you'll have to pay a lot more taxes and any mistakes could cause an audit |

Jen, FIRST AND FOREMOST, RESEARCH THE TYPE OF BUSINESS THAT YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT. Make sure that the demand for the business is there in your area. What are the upfront costs for everything including, working capital, accounting, legal counsel, equipment, inventory, license fees, etc. If it is a franchise, request the UFOC document first. Once you receive the UFOC, gom to Item 20 where it lists the name and phone number of every business owner, past and present. Call them! ask about their personal experiences with the business and if they would do it again. If most people say that they would do the same thing again. that is a very good sign that the business is stable. If it's not a franchise, you should be able to do the same thing by doing some research of people in other cities with the same business that you could call. Being that you are out of their town you are no threat to them and they hopefully can give you some insight. By all means do not attempt start up of any business without enough working capital to back you up. Almost every biz that I have seen fail within the first year or two was because they lack the money to survive start up. I could write on for hours and hours, but you get the idea. Do your homework and have an attorney look over any thing that you must sign-before you sign it. Good luck. Gary |

Analyse the market, see who are your competitors and what they offer.
Make the folowing questions about your business:
What goal / To Who / Where / When / What Results
And then start planing a business strategy based on your knowledge of the business, in terms of imediate and long time.
Good luck and success! :) |

Take it slow, make sure it is what you want to do, and make sure it is what your town/city needs, and go for it, hey my town is in desperate need of a grocery store you can have a huge successful store here, the closest one is 39 miles away! |

I agree with the advice of most of the others that answered so the only thing that I would add is to really research the business location as well.Even if you are really careful and plan the start of a business very well a bad location could ruin your chances for success.Good luck. |
