You will not be able to compete unless you specialize in something (like toys or sports items). And even then, you had better have all the technical expertise or a bunch (10s of thousands of dollars) capital. |

Before I would start anything, take a look at your competition, theres quite a few of them and there all wanting the business. |

Depends on what you want to sell. If it is a popular item that will sell for more than you spent, or if it is items that you no longer want and just want to be rid of than go for it because some money for it is better than it sitting in your basement. Also think about if the item can be shipped for a low charge, people hate spending a lot of money on shipping. Large, bulky items can be expensive to package and ship. Having good, clear pictures of your items is important too. People like to see what they are bidding on. |

It would be very hard to compete with eBay, but there are a lot of people that are fed up with eBay's practices. You would have to advertise quite a bit...but it may be worth it. |

you mean like a site?
it's not worth it unless you have a staff of at least 20 that know what they're doing
and even then it'll only be successful if you can make it specialized (music only, cars only, something like that)
if you're talking about an auction, yeah, it only takes a minute or two |

Yes, if you can come up with an idea that is original/creative and that improves an old design (eBay) and works efficiently and easily.
You would have a ton of work cut out for you, but if you plan and play it right, you could do extremely well. |
