Start by keeping records of everything you spend on the rock band and save all of your receipts for instruments and equipment. At some point when the band is up and running and you are generating income, then you may be able to amortize these "start up" cost off of your taxable income over 5 years. Amortization is similar to depreciation. If you have an on-going business, you can depreciate the equipment costs over the useful life of the equipment as an expense to offset some of the tax liability from the revenue you are generating with the band. Until your band is a "going concern" meaning a bonafied business that is expected to be around for the foreseeable future, you cannot write off anything for depreciation. Until then, keep track of everything you spend and classify the costs as start up costs when you finally start the band. then you can take some or all as a write off on your taxes. |

I would say it's better to get really good at you own instrument before starting a band. Begin so young you probably can't find any friends who have much in the way of musical talent. I suggest that you check out a few very influential bands before you start as well to hone your style. I suggest Sonic Youth, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division and The Clash. Good luck and good strumming. |

Wait until high school.
Please.
For now, depending on what YOU want to do, start practicing that.
Especially for vocals, it's best to start in high school. |

Its not that easy. You cant just say one day that you are gunna start a rock band. You have to find the VERY best musicians in your city and that is nat exactly a walk in the park. It took me 6 months to start up my band and we are still working out the kinks. |

Hook up with other guys that play instruments and have the same musical tastes as you. |

Buy and use top notch gear.
Know what sound your looking for and dont comprimise.
Jam with those who play with their heads up. No "lookers"
Jam with guys who want to be musicians not rock stars.
Dont use drugs.
Set up a jam space with pa and drums, tweak it and leave it set up like that. Practice from there every day
Guitarist playing covers?
Go for tone then get pedals to shape it. |

Learn to play an instrument first. Maybe take lessons or join the school band to get started. |
