It is really just simple math - $18.00 x 8.25% = 1.485. That would give you a tax of $1.49. Any time the last (3rd) number in the cents column is 5 or over you go to the next number. Another words instead of charging the .48 cents the five at the end makes it .49 cents. So just take your total times your tax and round it up if last number over 5. If last number under five then keep it to the original first 2 in the cents column. |

The tax itself would be $18x.0825, or $1.49 - or you could do $18 x 1.0825 to give you the total sales price.
Good luck with your business - if you anticipate a lot of business I'd really recommend QuickBooks. It's fairly inexpensive and really user friendly. |

total
multipy cost of item times (x) 1.0825... or 1.0xxx where xxx is the amount of the sales tax.. here in georgia it's 7% so it would be x1.07
for JUST sales tax... cost of item times (x) .0825 |

For the example you gave you'd multiply 18.00 X .0825 and the number you get is the tax amount (which would be $1.48) Hope that helps! |

$18.00 x 8.25% = $1.485 = $1.49 (rounded)
$18.00 + $1.49 = $19.49
Total cost of the item would be $19.49
BTW: On some calculators, that don't have a direct % key, you will have to hit the "2nd" key before the % key, which is usually above the number "2". |

check with the Tax department in CA they will tell you exactly how to calculate it. also look it up on line on ASK.COM or a math teacher, you can go to a library and read up on it. |

$18.00 x 1.0825=19.485 Rounded up $19.49. By multiplying by 1.0825 instead of just .0825 you can skip adding $1.49 to $18.00 and just get the total. Depending on how you have to write your reciepts.
The quarterly sales tax forms (In Washington at least) are a little more complicated. If you can do those online (I can in WA) it will do the math on those forms for you as long as you keep accurate records. |

If you want to find out the total amount inlcuding tax, just take the price of the jewellery your selling (i.e. $500), then multiply it by the sales tax (i.e. 6%).
so, it would look like so; $500 x 1.06
If you just want the tax amount, it would be;
$500 x 0.06 |

type in 18 on your calculator. The the big "X". Then type in 8.25 and hit the "=" key. The amount it shows is the tax. Now, just hit the plus sign (+) and enter 18 again followed by the "=" key one more time. Their is your answer. |

$18.00
X .0825
=$1.485
you move the decimal point 2 places to the left to change percentage to decimal for multiplication.
You can also just put in 18 x 8.25 and then hit the % sign on the calculator and this will give you the answer. |

Get a calculator. In WI it's 5.6%. Sell $100 worth of jewelry times .056 equals $5.60 in tax. $18 times .0825 equals $1.49 in tax. 1% is .01; 10% is .10, etc. |

Multiple 18 by 0.0825 for the amount of tax. If you just want the final figure, multiple 18 by 1.0825. I answered the phones at a mom and pop pizza joint for five years - you get used to the tax amounts. |
