I have a little experience in that area. My main advice is to make sure you have access to a good, reliable mechanic. Washing machines get horribly abused and need constant repair. If you have to wait for your mechanic for more than a few days, you lose business.
Also, go with having the machines operate with a card, not coins. The coin slots get vandalized which wrecks the machine for others.
Thirdly, get the laundry drop-off service going ASAP. People like that and it makes extra profit.
Good luck! |

Keep it spotlessly clean.
Keep all equipment running well.
Smile a lot and be friendly.
Keep it open late. (10 pm)
Don't use cash, use plastic card in the machines. Cuts down on crime.
Don't allow smoking. |

Do you live in an area where it is needed?
I know some inner cities have laundrette type places but i personally don't know anyone who hasn't got a washer to do their own laundry. |

If you mean a laundry shop the margins are high but the T/o isnt you have reasonable DIY skills you could open a laundry shop with as little as £2000,
You can optain coin opperated commercial washers and dryers on a proffit share basis the supplier will deliver and install them for free but take half the proffits off the machine
You could also improve your proffits by selling clean powder, conditioner, and even bin bags to take their washing home. Also visit you local dry cleaner and offer to accept dry cleaning at your shop for a percentage.
If you mean a commercial laundy ie business unforms, towels and go on, make sure you have clear unambiguouse agreements and be prepared to wait 2 months before you get paid as most business opperate a policy where by invoices are send and become payable by the last day of the following month
I hope this provides you with some information
Good luck in your new venture |

How about you don't have your own laundry equipment at all - you work from home.
Instead you give the laundry to a network of private homes all controlled over the internet. You'll be able to pay them a pittance as they are working from home (everyone wants to be able to work from home) and you'll clean up! (profit wise). |

Make sure you have clear agreements on payment terms if you mean supplying laundry services to business.
Make sure you have enough capital to meet start up costs. Then double it. |

Before you go any further, I presume you have done a proper business plan and costed it all out. This is a very expensive business to go into because of the initial outlay. Be careful of location, will it make money, remember most people have their own washing machines these day. Spend a day watching a local laundry, see how many people go in during a 12 hour period. Above all, do market research, concoct a little questionnaire and give it out to local people or houses near where you think you might be opening your business. |
