Best to say that you have looked at several companise and they seem to be a solid and reliable company to work for with a good reputation. You also like the product range and feel you could sell it with confidence. (just make sure you know their product range before going to interview!). Research the company on the web if you can, a few dropped answers on the comapny showing you know something about them goes down well. |

then why bother applying for the job then? apply for something you do want to do and let someone who wants to work for them get the job. |

No logic to this...why would you want to apply for something you do not want to do. What do you want to do? Go after another opportunity but do not lie, be honest with yourself and any future employer or you start on a slippery road covering your tracks |

i hate that question because you cant answer "i have a mortgage and an alcohol problem". I usually make up stuff about how i respect their business ethic. |

Every company asks that. Depending on the shop, you could say you like their products, or the atmosphere in the shop, or that you're keen to work in retail - it can't be that hard. They just want you to put some effort in.
Make sure that when you fill in the application that you spell things properly and use capital letters & punctuation in the correct places.
Good luck! |

Try the truth - why DO you want to work for them? |

Ha-ha! I always struggle to answer that question on application forms. Really, who on earth would want to work were it not for that small fact that they are bloody getting paid???
I would type some drivel about how you are quite an ambitious person and feel that working for (whatever company) would be the best way to find advancement in the retail sector...blah...blah...enjoy working for a team...want a challenge and whatever other jibberish enters your mind. |

Yes we all could give you "our opinion" as to WHY you want to work for this company but that would not be FAIR to either you or your prospective boss. Ask yourself that question while standing in front of a mirror. Next answer the question truthfully and honestly even if the answer sounds weird, odd or just plain nonsensical. There is no pat answer for that question. The company just wants to see how you express yourself. I remember hiring some applicants who had answers like "I need the money, you have a job so we both can win". I also remember NOT hiring those who went into long winded, 10 dollar words included about how they were visionary with ideas that would propel the company into the leader yada yada yada. Their rambling was NOT sincere. The more simple "I need the money ...." was. So go be sincere, direct and express it with passion. |
