home made/locally produced foods could be a good line to add. something like jams etc which older people love! and you could also serve it with toast so people get to sample it.
also, have you thought about asking your customers what they want? try a mini questionnaire on the tables which they can post in a box on the counter (give an incentive if needed like win a free meal, or hamper or something) just ask what makes them come in when they do, and if they came in in a morning what would they want etc

People always need a quick bite before going to work. I would suggest that you take a cue from the fast food places
Breakfast sandwiches. fresh pastrys, assortments of beverages...
Maybe a change in advertising? If I had more info from your question, I would expand on my answer. |

When I worked at a delicatessen, we sold a large variety of omelettes. And I used to work making muffins too.
Certainly some nice little picture postcards would help too.

I think using the cafe as an art forum for local talent is a great plan but I can't see that increasing your morning trade...I think the only thing that will do it is to offer traditional style breakfast foods both to serve in and out. Novelty idea for increasing interest and perhaps getting media attention locally is to introduce 'comfort foods' and get your customers to tell you what their favourite food is when they are down. Give a prize out for the best one for your opening competition and then proceed to offer it as 'comfort dish of the day' as recommended by 'Joe Bloggs' - people have bizarre ideas e.g. I like fish fingers slightly burned with noodles, lots of black pepper...it cheers me up no end. I wonder what other people would suggest? Anyway, the idea is that people will come and tell you their dish and you can keep the theme running indefinitely. |

Rich Products has some great bakery ideas. If you deal with a local Foodservice company (US Foods, Sysco, Reinhart, etc...) Talk to your sales rep. Also look up some local food brokers in your area. They are a great tool to have at no cost.
