you can also promote your website on other people sites. this is a common practice and typically free of charge as long as you as long provide a link to their site on your site like they will be doing to yours.

the best way to get customers is to make your name known and get it out there for people to see. try making flyers offering a "free trail member ship" or something to that extent because the main thing you want to do is attract attention and get traffic thru your site. You don't say what methods you have used to date but here are some ideas:
1. An opt-in page is a MUST (get people's details when they visit and remind them to visit you by sending them emails)
2. Write articles (or have them written for you) and distribute them to article directories, this helps get your link on other web pages both to get visitors from those websites but also to create back links for search engine optimization.
3. Speaking of search engine optimization, is your website correctly optimized for the search engines?
4. Post useful information to dating related forums (I don't know of any personally but I imagine there must be some?) and email groups with your link in your signature.

These are the best ways to get quality traffic to your website, however if all you are looking at is numbers you could also try traffic exchanges, credit based safelists, etc.

It takes time for web sites to grow unless you're a well known corporation. From the second to the third year of my web site, my hits jumped from 5 hits to 500 hits a week. For the fourth year, I'm hoping for 2000 hits a week. Of course, I linked my site to other sites, you need that for high placement in googles, and I used mega tags and keywords for Yahoo search engines. My site, however, is simply a fishing hobby site with no money whatsoever involved.
