u need to think about what can harm ur excellent invention( it may even be a human to do so). then think yourself of how to protect it . think of keeping it in a place that even ur closest doesnt know but you are sure to remember it.

You have to have it patented first before you even think of showing to anyone.And that costs money.
Once its patented you have to find a manufacturer to build it
and negotiate for percentage. |

Best option: File a patent at the US patent office, and yes, getting a good lawyer to do the paperwork is also a good idea.
As an extra precaution, you can also do what some of us penniless artists do:
manually make copies of your designs, sign and date each page, and place copies of your original designs in a sturdy envelope (no photocopies!!! they have to be hand-drawn/made!! the signatures MUST be in ink!) and seal it with paper tape or something as sturdy. You can also include important notes, like details of when it was conceptualized, how it was designed, etc etc.
Then, mail it to yourself, and DO NOT OPEN IT. EVER. The important bit here is the postmark which shows the date that you mailed it. If years later, you somehow end up with a dispute, you can then un-seal it at court and probably use that as evidence that you thought of it first.

The very first thing you do is copy all of your diagrams and notes. Then mail two separate copies to your self. Keep one and give the other to a trusted person far from your home. the post mark on the seal is proof in court of your intellectual property. As an amateur writer who has seen his own plagiarized work syndicated by someone else I know this is your first step. |

Apply for a patent. Do not attempt to sell it or make it accessible in the market without obtaining a patent; otherwise, others can copy and claim a patent for it at your expense. The rule that's being followed under the patent law is the first to file system. Whoever files first gets the patent. |
