I am trying to get a small business going to and the best result we have had is from the yellow pages or from flyers. We are doing a customer appreciation day and doing a bbq to see who will show. Maybe you could do something like a taste testing day or something similar. It may help. Good Luck!! |

Go out to the surrounding neighborhoods and pass flyer's. Get your local radio station to come out. There's lots of things you can do. Just use your imagination and go wild. It's easy. |

It would be hard to answer this question without knowing more about the line of business and the location / target clients you're thinking of.
Print usually has better results for small businesses than more expensive media. Try a mass mailing to the neighborhoods that have the target clients you're interested in ie college students, families w/children, older established families with adult children etc. |

Try craigslist.org, then go into the city that's closest to you, and place an ad in the small business area.

There is a very good book I read called Marketing without Advertising, which should be available in, or via, your local library. It has many good ideas for publicizing your business without spending advertising dollars.
Most small businesses do use personal references to advertise. Retail stores also try to leverage location. Print or radio advertising does work too, but costs. |

Print some postcards or brochures. Keep them handy in the store. Include them in every cake package you sell. Postcards can be more attractive and inexpensive to do.
Be more proactive in getting referrals. Instead of just waiting for your customers to refer you to others, tell them to help spread the word about your business. Then hand them your postcard (or whatever marketing materials you have) asking them to please give it to their friends.
Network with event planners and party planners in your area. These people are always on the lookout for good deals and great products from their vendors. If you can hook up with a could of these planners, you can have a steady stream of events to cater.

google adwords, yahoo click marketing ... go to your local chamber and see what trade shows/conventions are in town ... it all just depends on the type of business you have, what your market is, and how much time/effort/money you want to invest in marketing. What works for one business may not be good for another ... |
