I have some stuff to sell on ebay?
I'm 15, living in London and have ebay and paypal accounts set up already. I still have a couple of questions about selling stuff, please help! Thanks in advance.

1. Can I choose to only sell to UK buyers?
2. How much should I charge for postage?
3. What packaging/envelopes/stamps etc do I need?
4. Do I have to notify the buyer when the item is dispatched?
5. How much time, maximum, can I take before posting?
6. How do I post the item? (assuming it won't fit in a post box...)

Thanks again! xxx

1. Yes, on the Postage and Packing page, you can select UK only, and type it in on the item description.
2. Use http://www.royalmail.com and use the item and delivery coster. Weigh the package, enter the weight on here and it'll tell you an approximate cost.
3. Depends on what you're selling: DVD's, PC games etc, a Jiffy Bag, ortherwise a cardboard box and bubblewrap
4. You don't have to. When I sell I did, just think how you would like to be treated,
5. Depends. I always ship on the day the auction ends. You shouldn't wait more than 5 working days though. Specifiy on your item description.
6. Take it to the nearest Post Office. Take it to the counter and they will do it for you, then take the package and post it.

PS: It is against the ebay terms to setup an account under 18, same with paypal! But, shhh! We won't tell anyone!

Hope this helps

1. You don't have to sell internationally if you don't want to. On the sell your item form it will give you the option to select where you will post to.

2. ideally use a basic set of kitchen scales to get a rough weight of the package (and add a bit on just in case and to cover your packing) then pick up a leaflet at the post office or use this page http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder?catId=23500532&reset=true&gear=pricingcalc
to work out the cost. You get used to the large letter system. once you've done it a few times you generally know what will be a large letter and what isn't.

3. It depends what you're selling. For cd's dvd's you should get some bubble envelopes. For clothes you ideally want some mailing bags. Some sellers do mixed lots of packing supplies for beginners. Have a look in the business office and industrial - packing and postal supplies category. an example is this listing http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAIL-ORDER-PACKAGING-STARTER-PACK-40-Item-FREE-P-P_W0QQitemZ200150869225QQihZ010QQcategoryZ78043QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Unless it's a small item stamps are just a nuisance, take it to the post office and they'll do it for you. You can also use paypal postage where you put in the weight of the package yourself, print it out and stick it to your package. Then you can just put the package in a post box if it fits, or hand it in at the post office. An option to do this will appear after the item has sold.

4. No you don't have to notify them but it's nice to! Ebay provide email templates for contacting buyers so it's easy to do.

5. Personally I would say about 2 working days but I've had a lot longer, believe me. If you can't do it within this time e.g. because you don't live near a post office, state this clearly in your listing and you shouldn't have any problems.

6. Take it to a post office or if it's small enough use paypal postage as above and put it in a post box.

Good luck! You'll get into the swing of it after a few listings :)

1. Log onto ebay.co.uk, but if you like add 'only UK customers' to your listing if you like.

2.search people selling same stuff to get an idea of postage or go to royalmail.co.uk (you will need to know weight)

3.all depends on what you are sending, but excess packaging is better all round. i wrap things in bubble wrap, then box/envelope depending on the item. Post office can also help if you dont mind taking the item there, but add a couple of lbs for packaging.

4.not really but it is polite to.

5.you should really post as soon as you have payment, but if you need longer make sure you add it to your listing i.e say how many days handeling time (usually however long payment takes to clear)

6.take it into the post office, they will take it from there.

Hope this helps, been using ebay for a few years, bit shakey to start but once you get into it, it's like riding a bike.

1. Sell to all over the world
2. I believe it will tell you that when posting the item (depends on weight)
3. Typical manilla envelopes with the bubbles on the inside :)
4. I don't believe you have to, but it is done commonly
5. If you wait to long, you will get your buyers angry. Typically ship within a day or two
6. Go to a post office

stef
1. On the selling page mark your item for UK buyers only and in the post box mark will only send to UK buyers.

2. Go to Royal Mail web site for "price finder" enter weight of item and the web site will advise you of the post cost. Small items that will go through the letter box can be as cheap as second class post however if you are selling an expensive item you may like to send it recorded mail and get a signature. When buying your post make sure you get the receipt and ask for proof of posting.

4. Follow the instructions on ebay once the item is sold that should be enough. I have never notified anyone yet. Do remember to leave feedback - again follow the ebay prompts.

5. If a person pays promptly it is a courtesy to post promptly - makes for good business practice.

6. Post the item at the local post office, this is where you can buy the cost of posting the item and get your proof of posting.

In general ebay gives you all the prompts you need to move from one step to another.

Happy ebaying

You can choose to only pay to UK buyers if you wish (this is probably safer)

You should weigh the item first then check to see how much this would cost to pack & post

you should buy packaging suitable for the product such as envelopes for small items or boxes for larger ones

you could notify the buyer when the item is dipatched but this is not necessary (you may get better feedback by doing this)

You should post the item asap to ensure a smooth transaction, usually after 7 days a buyer may report you as they havent received their item

all items can be sent via the royal mail or you can choose a courier if it is a very large or heavy item

hope this helps and good luck...

1. Always yes!
2. Im not sure what the mimium is on ebay sorry
3. you dont need anything, just the box of whatever your selling comes from, users will get their own bags/boxes
4. No, you have to notify ebay but itll already do that for you, even though youll still get buyers!
5. not sure what the limit is, find out in the website, it should tell you all this.
6. lol, on the website, thats all the advice i can give you sorry

1. Yes in the 'posting &shipping' section when you list your item, it will let you select where you want to send it to.
2. Take your items to the post office and ask - it is very difficult to judge due to size being taken into account now.
3. Buy some bubble wrap, or 'jiffy bags' (the padded envelopes) if your things are small enough. I just use some old boxes i have lying about, teamed with brown packing tape.
4. Yes, there is a check box beside the sold item in 'my ebay' - you can click in the dropdown menu and select 'mark as dispatched'
5. Contact your winning bidder and let them know what day you intend to post the item. i wouldn't leave it any more than 5 days.
6. Take it in to the post office, and they will stamp it and put it away for posting.

old know all
1) Yes
2) Weigh it, find out what it would cost to post it (the Royal Mail site is useful or Parcel2Go if it's heavy) then add a bit for the cost of the envelope.
3) That depends on the goods. Just make sure they are wrapped securely so they arrive safely
4) You don't have to, but it's polite.
5) Sooner the better, again it's polite not to keep people waiting if they've paid.
6) Take it to the post office. (Or if you're using Parcel2Go, they come and get it.

eBay has buyer and seller forums and also tips for sellers. I think you would get better answers there. I've only sold one item on eBay so I'm no expert, but their user forums are pretty good.
Good luck!

Hi There.

1. Can I choose to only sell to UK buyers?
I'm not too sure on this one

2. How much should I charge for postage?
Depending on the items. If, eg. You were sending a trampoline, you would have to charge them the fee for the courier etc. to deliver

3. What packaging/envelopes/stamps etc do I need?
Also depending on the item, a normal stamp is fine for a smaller item. Larger ones are usually couriered.

4. Do I have to notify the buyer when the item is dispatched?
You Don't have to. It's just courtesy really. I normally notify my buyers because then they have the knowledge that everything is ok.

5. How much time, maximum, can I take before posting?
Usually up to you. I think there is a maximum of a week though.

6. You can, as i said before, Get the item couriered or deliver it personally. Another option is to ask the buyer to pick the item up from your home etc. I prefer not to do this because it can be quite intimidating letting someone into your home. Especially as a teenager, such as myself.

Hope I helped. Jay x
