As mentioned, it could have been a matter of your garage sale not being advertised well enough. Advertise as much as possible and do it in a timely manner...try not to be too early or too late with the advertising.
I do not know what area you are in, but there is a chance that the current economy may have had an effect on your garage sale. It's possible that fewer people are going out to sales due to the high gas prices and not having extra money to spend.
There are a few sites online with good tips on how to hold a successful garage or yard sale. |

You're silly. How was the weather? Too hot or too wet? Did you have the yard sale around a major holiday? What day of the week was it on? Did you advertise in the newspaper, flyers, signs? Was your sale in the front yard or in the garage?Did you have price tags or did people have to ask you "how much?" Did you price things too high for a yard sale? Were your items clean and looked almost new? Was your sale cluttered or were things neatly laid out on tables & clothing racks? A few things to keep in mind before having a yard sale. Remember that it takes a lot of preparation. |

did you advertise? Put notice in local newspaper and signs on the street corner. what was the location? in the country? middle of city? location can make a big different in the amount of business you get. next time try combining with friends or family and have a huge sale in a moderately trafficked area. |

Did you display your items nicely? If you have your books on shelves and items on tables, it looks more appealing to the people passing by and they are more likely to stop and browse. Even laying out tarps/sheets to lay things on looks nice. Also try advertising in the local paper. If a lot of yard sales are in your area try using bright colors on your posters/signs to draw attention to your sale. |

signs, signs, signs!!!!!!!!!!!! everywhere.and newspaper and/or radio ads. every morning our local radio station has a call in sale for the public and they welcome yard sale ads. |
