I just signed up to sell Avon?
If I put a flyer in your mailbox saying "contact me for a catalogue and free smples" how would you react? If you already had an avon rep, would you switch? Would you ask for the book just to get the samples? Should I list which samples I would be giving? thanks

I live in Canada, and We get stuff in the mailbox on a regualr basis.

An idea is to start out with friends, family, and coworkers first. People are more prone to buy from someone they know than a stranger. Other ideas that I have come across is at sports team as a fundraiser for them, day care, doctor's office waiting rooms, dentist office waiting rooms, beauty salons, community events (bring samples and catalogs), and restaurants. However, ask the business owner or manager before placing the Avon catalogs. Always make sure you leave your telephone number and email address on every document or catalog. For other ideas, check out the Avon literature given out to you in the kit. Good luck!

I would start out by having an Avon "party" at your house and inviting all of your girlfriends. I would tell them that they get free samples for every guest that they bring. This would help to bring in your initial clientele and then you wouldn't be commiting a crime by putting things in people's mailboxes.

Hello fellow Canadian. Good thing it's not a federal offense in our country to put things in mailboxes! Seems kind of "uptight" to me!
Anyway, asking people to contact you for anything, rarely happens. Life seems to get in the way, no matter how interested they are.
I will tell you about Joan. She was my Avon lady for nearly 20 years and saw my kids grow up. What she did was ring the doorbell. When I answered, she gave me a catalog, and she had a whole pile of samples in a case she carried. I invited her in because I was nosy about what she had in her case. For those who didn't answer the door, she left a catalog and said she would check in next week to see if they had any orders.
Joan called me before every campaign to see if there was anything I needed. Had she not called, she would have never got orders because frankly, I usually forgot to call her. I was busy, worked full time and had 2 small children, so I could count on her to give me a call. She would stop in for a visit once a month to show me her new products and gadgets, which I never would have bought had I just looked through the catalog. Seeing them, especially in spring or at Christmas, made all the difference in the world, and Joan got orders! She also made many life long friends, I know all about her family and she about mine. It's all about relationships.
Joan decided to have a look at my business because she saw in a few short months, that I was earning more than she was. She was open to another stream of income, so now she is on my team, and I sell Avon for her! Relationships.

I would also be upset if you put a flyer in my mailbox. If you left it on by my door, I wouldn't be upset, but I wouldn't call either. I think most people would feel the same way. Most people don't respond to a piece of paper. Try starting out with a group of your friends and have an Avon party. People are much more likely to try the product if they can see it, try it on, and get feedback from friends. Maybe they would tell their friends or coworkers and you could start out with word of mouth. That is a much better way than wasting paper.
As far as switching reps, I'm pretty sure Avon frowns upon intruding on someone else's territory. You should check that out first.

I saw an Avon catalogue at the gym class parents waiting room. I read it and I almost wanted to call the representative except I didn't have anything to copy the phone number down, so I didn't. Instead of mail box, try kid's activity class where moms hang around and wait or even a local coffee shop or ice cream store if they let you. Leave several catalogues or flyers for people to take and tell what you are giving away. And also say NO OBLIGATION. That will motivate people to call.

I think it is a good idea as it will save putting catalogues through doors of people who dont want them. I would think about switching if I got free samples.I wouldnt list the samples just in case you ran out and had to use others. As for the person who said it is illegal to do this - what planet are they on? we get leaflet drops all the time, companies can't send spam through the mail anymore but leaflet drops are completely different. The post office would laugh at them if they phoned to complain about an avon catalogue! (in the uk anyway!)

I just want you to know that placing information in people's mailboxes without permission is a Federal offenence. I'm not hating, I just want you to be ware.

If you put the flyer in my mailbox, I would call the post office and complain. You would be breaking the law if you did that.

Now, if you mailed me a flyer, I would just trash it like all the rest of the junk mail that I get.

We have many people that have done Avon and switched to our Company and have all said it was a wise decision. We don't have to sell anything or do what you are asking us if we would mind that you do that. I can show you what I am talking about if you are interested. This truly is not just about making money (though my wife's aunt makes between $10,000-$11,000 a month as we are on the same pace without selling anything) but having safe products in your home for you and your family. If you are interested in a home based business than you can e-mail us back at cleanandsafehome@yahoo.com and we can give you the details. We are not going to give all the hype that people look for but just tell you the truth. We don't sell, deliver or stock products. The name of our company that we work with is Melaleuca and we are proud to say their name. It is not a scam or an MLM company, it is a 500 Inc. company that care’s about people and enjoys paying them for referring people to them and it is as simple as that. It is truly a great story about this company. Let us know if you would like to learn more.

Thanks,
Rich & Teresa
