It's a shame that this country doesn't pay more for hard labor... Who can live on $5.35 unless you live with your parents still or your spouse has a good job. Unfortunately many places pay too little.
If you like people and have a clean record you may want to try working in a group home for adults with disabilities? I started out there making very little but the job is rewarding and I have moved up. Look on the internet for you local Community Services Board and it should give you a list of jobs... most times you just need a GED or diploma... Good luck! |

Well, The Idea of minimum wage is to have a law that states they must pay you atleast that much. Should you get more? ABSOLUTELY!!!! if they didn't have a minimum wage, then
you may be able to get more if nobody else wanted to do that job for minimum. but since they have it they get away with keeping wages down, so they can keep a low income group of people who HAVE to work and borrow money for everything!!!, then the wealthy get to keep the interest from what you borrowed, then when you payoff the loan you need to get another or maybe a credit card and your kept in debt most of your life, working for minimum wage. Ain't minimum wage grand? |

That is a low wage, but your job is a low-level skill job, so unfortunately, you can not expect much. I think the min wage is going up soon, so that may help some. |

your job is labor intensive I get that. And 5.35 is not alot of money. I will just assume you can legally work. Personally I think you should be paid more. But it comes down to one thing.
If you walk in and tell your employer you want a raise. Will your employer give you a raise or does he have a list of another 100 people that would kill for your job at 5.35?
You might want to start looking around at other jobs, McDonalds pays more then that and you arent around laundry all day.
Good luck in getting a raise or getting a different job. |

no...it pays what it pays. You are always paid what you are worth and people set their own pay when you agree to work for that pay. If you think you are worth more than 5.35 per hour, go find a better paying job.
I cant believe the responses people are giving you. We have become a society where people think that they are owed a raise. No one is OWED anything....you EARN a raise! I cant believe not one person is giving you the correct answer, which is. IF YOU WANT TO BE PAID MORE THAN 5.35 PER HOUR, MAKE YOURSELF WORTH MORE THAN 5.35 PER HOUR!!!
People should remember this. Instead of whining about what other people pay or what the minimum wage is...why dont you start your own business, only hire uneducated people without skills and pay them all 20 bucks an hour? |

I would'nt work for 5.35 an hr. if I was starving , and I thought my 10.00 an hr. was bad , but on the other hand you gotta do what you gotta do to earn a living. |

if you work alone, then techinically you would be a manager, and you should be making more than minimum wage. Where do you live that the minimum wage is 5.35?? that's really rough! |

Oh no darling. Living in the United States, you can get a much easier job, less hours, and make more money than you are making weekly at that laundromat. Time to look for a new job. |

That is what the company has decided what the job is worth. I think if you want more money, offer them work that is more valuable to them. |

Congress just changed the Federal Minimum Wage. Here are the new rates.
3 step increase is scheduled as follows:
$5.85 - Summer of 2007
$6.55 - Summer of 2008
$7.25 - Summer of 2009
It looks like your making 50 cents less than minimum wage. So I would say the answer to your question is no. |
