sounds like your business is very much depend on local community.
get involved in community events like home town fest.
invite local celebrity to store or have meet police and fireman kind a event. u can also run projects like training in cpr/emergency response which is often run for free by village. get involved in fun raising say every harry potter book sale you will give a buck to such such organization.
I know countless ideas ... what i can't tell is what will work because it's all depends on geographical factor
good luck |

you could encourage shoppers to donate used books for a cause and offer 10-20% one item in store. |

Have you tried doing something that attracks the kids? Nothing is works better than a kid wanting something!!!! Try Face painting or maybe open a little kiddie area as a promotion, you would have to look into insurance for that one though. Good Luck:) |

do you have any local celebrities that would do something
charity book drive - % goes to chairty
use anything unique about the local area to your advantage that would help and if all that fails then just look for ideas of those from other cities and copy after all whos it gonna hurt |

Is it a paint store or a bookstore ?
Anyway, I think the principal that they used was to get somebody to demonstrate that with some skill, it is possible to create or do something exceptional with the products in the store.
You could have a coffee morning where customers get free coffee and can have a sit down and read a book. They might turn up for the free coffee, and might buy the book because they want to finish it. |
