blaqcat2nv | I own a Scrapbooking store. I need customers ASAP. What should I do? |
Out of money. Need more customers. Upgraded our products. Our Customer Service is tops. I have over 3500 people that have shopped here in the last two years. I get around 200 customers a month. Some new, most returning business. I've advertised and made coupons. Had a couple of Sidewalk Sales. Many in-store cropping events each month with marginal participation. I've been open for 2 years and 3 months. I'm located between a Riteaid and a Radio Shack. Some foot traffic but not much. Please Help! |

When I did scrapbooking (back when I had the time).. I used to get the magazines and look at the state directory of scrapbook stores in the back. Perhaps you could try listing your store there.
Also, the one that I go to now when I do have the time has a Christmas time promotion- for each canned good you bring in to help in a food drive, you receive 5% off up to 4 cans.
Another idea is to have a card that you give them and stamp after every $10 dollars (or so) they spend. When they accumulate $100 dollars spent, they get a $10 gift certificate. At first you might want to make this a little more desirable for them and give them 20% instead of 10% and make it so they receive $20 off. It also depends on how much you mark up your merchandise.
Free-scrap nights are also great. They can either bring their own stuff from home or buy it at the store, but the big advantage for scrapbookers is that they can use your bigger equipment like the diecut machines, etc.
I was looking at other answers- they have a good point- a website is huge! I usually only shop at places that have a website so that I can get a better feel of what they might have in store. ITs ok if you dont have an online store at first, but over time, once you get more traffic, that would be a good idea too.
Goodluck to you! |

Why Me?
|
Radio is the way to go, it is not that expensive, when you call, ask to speak to an account executive , ask him or her, for a special rate, because you are a new customer....good luck....I find this is the best way to generate business..... |

You should get in touch with some of the activities coordinators at senior centers, retirement homes and maybe nursing homes and sponsor some kind of party.
Maybe you could sponsor a special day for families with Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's patients NEED memory books, and families can be embarrassed taking their loved ones out when they are having a hard time or acting up. Try Alzheimer's support groups.
New moms are exhausted. Try advertising where new mom/breastfeeding classes are held, for a "scrapbooking for you" service.
Think about expanding into digital memory slide shows as well. You can make DVDs for weddings, funerals, graduations, etc.
When you drum up some money you can advertise on the back of coupons, at the Rite Aid pharmacy next to you is a good start, at grocery stores, targeted to customers who buy formula or baby supplies or what not. Its targeted advertising and I hear its pretty cheap. |

Scrapbooking is a slow business by nature. Our local one finally shut down after 5 years for lack of business. |

Open a Scrapbooking store website to supplement your income at the store. Sell both online and in the store. Advertise at Scrapbooking message boards. |

Do you have an internet store?
More and more people are shopping on the internet and why not? You don't need to fight the crowds or traffic and you can sit and look at a leisurely pace.
Get on the web if you want to survive. |

I don't know where you are but I'm thinking it's the location. These might be out there but...Have you tried reaching out to your Park District to partner up for Cropping Classes? I'd think of every thing that has to do w/ Mothers - since they're probably your main demo. Also - retirees? Your community may have welcome packages that are sent to new homeowners - you can advertise there. I'd check hospitals as well. Mine puts on a baby fair every few months. That's when I started scrapbooking. I'm not Marketing guru but at least it's an idea! |
