Jessi | I plan on moving to the UK in the next couple of years, what would be a good business to open there? |
I've always wanted to open my own business, thought about bakery/pastry shop, maybe my own little pub/bar, but i want something successful, that ppl will like and enjoy in the UK, any suggestions would be great! |

You don't say where you will be coming from, but in terms of the things you suggested, like bakeries/bars, etc, we have plenty of those. Perhaps it would be better to bring something more unique to this country that has something to do with your country of origin. Eg, if you are Spanish, you could open a tapas bar, etc. If you choose carefully you could draw some real interest and not suffer from much competition either. |

Forget traditional pubs, thousands of them are closing here every year due to drink driving laws etc |

I wouldn't come to the UK unless you are already rich and don't need to earn any money. Do you know how expensive property is here? In fact everything is very expensive: beer, , wine, food in general. Typically things are as much as 100% cheaper for instance in Germany, and the Germans earn more! German rental costs are often half what they are here or less. Roads are crowded here, there are virtually no cycle lanes. Class issues dominate the way people interact and its VERY hard to get to know people outside of work, school or clubs. I would go to Holland! They all speak English and they have no wierd island mentality. The British act as if they aren't part of Europe and its very bloody expensive getting over to the continent as well! (By the way any British people offended by this ...I would say you probably have no idea that it could be different elsewhere.....yes, there are good things about Britain...very little red tape involved when starting a busines...nightmare in Germany....but there aren't many more, can you name any!?)...and there is very little britain makes any more: books and weapons is mainly it. To make money is very hard you need to be in property (estate agents have done well lately) or finance. Doctors earn more than 4 times the national average income...oh dear this is turning into a rant...... |

DEFINATELY something for teenagers aged between like 13--> 16 so how about like a club thing for 13 to 16 years olds only, you could serve good food have a dance floor get some good music, I would definately come with my friends, plus you'd have b-day parties and stuff but just one rule:
ONLY 13-16 year olds.
That would be well kool |

Find a nice area, and if you have the funds have a fishing lake. Stock the lake well and also provide fishing tackle and bait.
There are always people who love to fish.
Bakery's and shops are too much hard work.
Pubs and bars are hard work and run the risk of trouble. (fights)
A fishing pit will look after itself and the doe will come rolling in provided its kept clean, in nice surroundings and rat free. Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.
There you go - sorted. Welcome to our wonderful country. |

If you are going to U.K. read further. Personnally I would not start any "overhead" business. Regardeless of what some people may say telecommunication in Europe does not have many strong company in opposition and we are strongly coming into the market and definitely looking for LEADER to take the chance of their life. Contact me I'll explain further otherwise pass your chance... |

Might be better to assume that existing UK businesses will have the advantage over you until you learn about this country. |
