That is my side business. I have a website that offers that (and have for 4 years now) and business is very slow. People do not want to pay a fair price for what scrapbook artists do, quite honestly.
I do both scrapped pages and full albums. I also sold a few hundred page kits and pieces on ebay a few years back.
The majority of my full-album customers have been scrappers who want to take a break for awhile and they are not afraid to pay for it because they know what is involved with scrapbooking... TRUE scrapbooking is an artform.
The average person who emails me for a quote is never happy with what they hear. They want to pay for supplies and that's it, never for my time and expertise.
My advice would be to research thoroughly, look into offering your services to businesses first... maybe some doctors (plastic surgeons are a good place to start) and realtors in your area who would like a quality showpiece for potential customers. Advertise locally but think globally for the future. Be prepared to start with lower prices than you deserve, with plans to increase your prices as your business grows.
Good luck! It's a hard business to do and make any money... if you love what you do, you'll do much better. |

I have seen several people run this kind of business through craft fairs and do fairly well at it. Typically they sell for around $2-3/page and they have pre-designated places people can insert their own photos.
The other way I've seen this done is by creating scrapbook-type shadow boxes that people can put their own photos into. They have a few more 3D qualities and typically sell for $25-45, depending on the size of the shadow box.

I think that your idea is a good one. I would order an album from you. Its sentimental. Its unique. Its different. But of course make sure you do your market research first. Make sure you know who your competition is, how many businesses like this are currently in operation. Some things to think about are what sets you apart from the competition? How is your company different?

It's a business and as such you need to learn all you can about business. Then do some local market research before you start doign it as a business.
One market you might consider is busy executives and business owners who would like to have a scrapbook; but who don't have the time to do it AND who have the money to pay for it.

Hi, I had a similar idea just over a year ago, and did a fair amount of research and crunched a few numbers and it all worked out to be a lot of work for little return, for me it would have been great for family and friends and a few word of mouths but as a long term item it wouldn't give enough return. But that was just me, I am not saying it would be the same for you.
I also researched an ebay store and thats when I discovered that most of the 'Big' suppliers wont allow you to purchase from them unless you have a bricks and mortar store or a secure checkout on a website not auction site. So I ended up setting up an online retail store, check it out www.abundantiasgold.com.au or www.scrapbookingsa.com.au

FUK YEA i would buy one, I hate the fact that the scrapbooking world only offers stickers over here, stickers over there in the stores. A complete book would be awesome! The idea is remarkable and awesome!!! I would order one for newlyweds or first baby (im a newlywed recently married and 4 months pregnant) I scrapbook all the time and I buy from hallmark which sucks bad! Make sure you offer plenty of fabric choices as well as stickers:) |
