Shelter is the UK's largest homeless charities, dedicated to relieving the plight of adults and children faced with this terrible situation.
We are looking for passionate and committed individuals to join their small teams, working throughout London. This has and continues to be the most effective way of not only raising much needed funds but also the profile of the organisation.
If you can commit to at least 3 months, 5 day's per week and from 10am to 6pm, then we would love to hear from you. In return we offer extensive training, on-going support, weekly pay and promotional opportunities.

OK. I will give you help for this application, and any further ones you may want help with.
Firstly mirror everything they are looking for. ie, We are looking for passionate and committed individuals to join their small teams.
So you need to state, you work well in a team, but can work alone, you are passionate, and are committed to helping others who are less fortunate. back this up with examples.
They do not have to be real, but believable. Remember the examples you give, and be willing to expand on them in the interview.
State why you want the job. You feel it is societies duty to help people less fortunate than them selves, (this is the relieving the plight....)
You have the time to commit and the drive. Expand on all the points.
Any time you are applying for a job, photocopy the application form, and highlight all the main points they are looking for.
If you have the basics they are looking for, Shelter ask you for an interview. I know because i worked there! |

You need to demonstrate that you understand how people come to be on the steets and how hard it is to get their lives back together.
You will need to show a certain amount of sympathy towards them without being patronising but also show that you can 'deal' with what you are seeing. Most if not all of these people will have hit rock bottom and that does funny things to people. A lot will have drink and drug issues as well as mental health issues, you will definitely see some things that will shock you.
As long a you come across as understanding and compassionate you should be fine. Do some research into homelessness in general so you are armed with some facts. |

Just tell them the truth, try to taylor your skills to the ones required to do the job. And above all be passionate.
Get someone you know to read through your app before you send it and make sure you do a spell check. |

Say why you want the job, what qualities, skills etc that you could bring to the table, highlight your enthusiasm! You need to make your details stand out, if you have done any activities throughout your life that you feel would contribute to what they are looking for then dont hold back.
Remember they prob gets hundreds of applications, you need to make sure that yours is one of the best.
Research the company & the role, show them that you are keen and willing to do whatever it takes. |

Just reply telling them why you really want the job, what you feel you can bring to the organisation, what you hope to get out of it on a personal level. Also tell them your strengths and personal attributes.
Before you write anything make a list of all of the above, then put it all into a letter.

You must be sure that you will be available for the period of time in question and that you are committed to the project.
You are aware that this kind of job entails a lot of personal contact with the homeless. Their plight does need compassion, empathy and practical help. You should state that your abilities and past experience with people (if you have any) gives you every reason to go further and be of help. Remember, you will become emotionally involved, it cannot be helped, so the training course will be of paramount to your welfare. |

If you have any previous experience such as volutary work talk about it and how much satisfaction it gives you knowing that you are helping people! Tell them what you will gain from the experience, communication skills (bettering them), getting involved in the community, satisfaction, you want to be able to empathise with people better than you already do by learning more about the struggles people face first hand!
Its a worthy job! Tell them how much you appreciate them even considering you!
