I don't know where what part of the country you're in, but where I'm from those home parties are not really popular. Most of the items sold can be found at a local retailer, and the pricing isn't that competitive. The consensus is that we go to the parties because we like or are related to the hostess (and feel enormously guilty for not going), not because we really want to purchase the product. The women I know who did the parties gave up after the first two or so because they found they couldn't make a real or even supplemental income from it.
My intention is not to be harsh or insensitive, but that the consensus of practically all the women I know (except for those giving the parties.) I can only speak from my own experience and the women I know who've attended home parties. If you want to get people to have parties, you should ask yourself "Why should they? What's in it for them?" Most women like the idea of getting together and just hanging out; When I get an invitation for a home party I immediately think "sales pitch, not party."
People are different in different parts of the country, and I'm sure there are success stories out there. I hope someone will give you some great ideas. |

you should set up a free profile on directmatches to advertise your candle business. I advertise there and I get alot of great results. I got over 1000 hits my first month...not bad for free advertising. goto http://www.directmatches.com/bpmccauley1 to set up your profile and start advertising. |

why not try setting up stalls at local swap meets or car park garage sales it is cheap and its one way people will start to take notice or your product offer a reward to anyone willing to have a party ie ..10 dollars off or what ever ...dont hassle people to join just place a large flyer at your stall with the offer you decide..gl |

Don't give up! Check with some businesses and see if they would let you set up your "booth" in their salon, postal annex, something like that for a day or 2 to get your name out there. Give your business card to everyone you meet. At some point it starts becoming too easy! I have made a very successful candle business for myself and truly believe that if you believe in what you are doing and you have a superior product that your customers will keep coming back for more. You also need to make it a point at least once a week (if not more often) to call past customers and let them know about any specials you might have going on - sometimes they tell themselves they need to order and just don't find the time but if you call them then you helped them out :) Keep the faith and try all of this - it will help! :) Michelle |

You really should have thought of this before taking on the position. It's a tough go. You won't make much money and people will begin to avoid you because they don't want to come to your home and then be expected to buy candles. These kinds of business ventures are rarely lucrative. And there are some really stupid answers here like the first one. Advertising in a phone book or newspaper is extremely expensive, and another one who stated you should advertise on bulletin boards! Oh yes, and the little git who told you to set up a booth at a swap meet apparently cannot read as your type of business is done from home. Setting up booths costs money too, by the way, as does setting up cards in shop windows that some other idiot suggeted. Yahoo is full of a bunch of yahoos, that's for sure! |

Try getting local craft shops to sell some for you. Otherwise what about advertising in newspaper of delivering flyers around the area. They arent too expensive to print |

since mothers day is coming you can make a mothers day basket and sell them as gifts for their mothers to people you know or people you work with. just a thought, you can make flyers and post them up to show people what you do.
good luck. |
