Here's what I suggest....

1. Determine the main focus of the website: Advertising, info exchange, customer relations, etc.
2. Create a list of things you want the website to offer: Contact info, company info, customer experience, pricing, resume's, feedback forms, etc.
3. Decide on a 'look' for your website. Do want it to be funny, professional, artistic, informational, techicnical, etc.
4. In a spiral notebook... draw out, in 'big block' form, what you want your website to look like. Make a new page for each 'website' page you want to have. Name these pages and then associate them to the referring pages.
5. Decide on a domain name. I would suggest you purchase your domain name instead of using something like GeoCities with your name appended to it. Remember you want to give the impression your a full time, strong business... not just something someone threw up to rip people off with.
6. Decide on a Host provider. I suggest you look strongly at NetSolutions.
7. Decide if you want to create your on website or enlist the help of a friend with web experience or hire it out completely.
8. Build the website.
9. Start advertising your business with your website and start promoting your website in your advertisments and business cards.
10. Make lots of money!

Hope this helps. I have built several website and more specifically one for my Wife's faux painting business. See the source sites listed below for examples. If your in the Houston / Spring area, maybe I can help you with your site and you can help me with some electrical work I need done!

Good luck!

Depends on if you want expensive have someone do it for you or cheap do it yourself.

Best option is a company that I know of that will help you set up your website and then you can update it yourself. You pay them $69 a month for this and they even help you get listed on the search engines.

Even more in depth you can learn how to get ranks for free on Google. Be careful there is a lot of bad people out there with bad information on how to do this. As an electrician an nice simple templated website will work fine for you.

Don't get me wrong and I don't work for these folks but I got the HTML lesson from video professor. His offer of free lessons works.Just follow the instructions. The lessons are great. You need to learn HTML to build as far as I know and the lesson I got really schools you and free to boot.

Check out hplearningcenter.com for listings on available online classes, like "How to build a website","How to advertise your business" and several more. I've learned a lot. Plus there is an instructor to ask questions about through out the week. Good luck!

I was too but someone on here suggested Yahoo! Geocities. Its free so good when your starting up and easy to use as they have templates etc. Have been trying it for a bit now and its OK to start with until you have cash to pay someone.
Take a look.

If you want to build it yourself, try: http://webhosting.yahoo.com/ps/sb/index.php

A mate of mine had no experience made a decent website from this.

If you want someone to make you a basic site for £150 inclusive of website name and email address, try http://www.webcompass.co.uk - really cheap but really basic (as you can tell from their website)

Or if you're quite good as learning new packages, Dreamweaver is a good place to start.

As a small business owner, I can tell you from experience that web site wouldn't bring you new businesses. However, a web address on your business card does help increase your credibility. Therefore, I suggest that you do a simple and professional site. No need for anything fancy.

I used Microsoft Word to create my pages, and www.1and1.com to host my site. The hosting is $3.99 per month, additional discount available if you sign 1 year contract. They have great online help and the telephone technical support are very helpful as well. The only additional software I needed was a free download called FileZilla (http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/), a FTP program. The FTP program is used to transfer your web pages files from your computer to the hosting sever.

Alternatively, you can hire freelance developers to do it for you. Scriptlance (https://www.scriptlance.com) is a good place to place your project for bid. You can get someone to do it for very little money.

Best wishes.

Well, here's my personal website. I did it purely in Notepad/HTML:
http://www.freewebs.com/infosource100

What you need to do is to obtain a domain name (about 20$ or less) first (www.jojojojojo.com for example), then you will need a hosting server which is about 120$/year to host your webpage.
The host might provide you with user-friendly tools for webpage design.

Adsense$Profits?
I work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless. I have all the freedom I need. The only thing that tied me down is 'how much income I want or need' I create new page for my websites everyday. The more websites I have will determine how much income I can get. Anyone who can type and can create websites or blogs can make money. Blogger.com lets you create blogs for free and allows you to make money too. If you can create websites or blogs and can type, you can make online money online easily. You may make money by publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If you have a website or a web-blog, you could make money by publishing advertisements on your site (by google). If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money. If you don't have a website, you may start creating web-blogs like blogger.com (mostly free) with advertisements (google ads) on it. Some free websites don't allow you to publish google adsense because they are doing it themself. I had received too many yahoo violation notices, so, I'll better not post my own url here. i come by this new blog which I think is good. Take a look if you are free eg: http://lost-newbie.blogspot.com/ I found her on blogger.com. I recommend this blog because I think she needs money badly

Find a hosting company. Most of them charge less than $10 per mth. Almost all come with a website creation tool.
