I want to import a few things from china, wants the best route to go about it.?
I've checked the internet but is it safe enough to buy over the internet, considering i'm going to spend a vast sum of money.

Is there a leadfree.com

heartsbluekingdom
if you are going to spend thousands or more then why not go to the importers and oversee the operation? Of course theres a cost involved but if the business is big then it's a worthy statement and you could also think of it as a holiday

The internet is safer place than China..

Why don't you export a ship full of lead. The may enjoy a good meal.

(Assuming that you are in the UK...?) The essential things to consider are:-

1. Can you trust the supplier? (there are some scams out there to watch out for)
2. How are you going to monitor and control quality?
3. How will you handle customs and the logistics of getting them to your storage warehouse or directly to your customers?
4. Are you VAT registered -you have to be really to import stuff (it is possible to get a temporary VAT number).
5. A key question is: do you want the goods made to your own specific design or do you want to source ready-made , off-the-shelf items?

If you are serious (and not just a fantasist) I can help arrange this for you. Charge is just 10% of manufacturers price. All logistics at cost price. We have associates in China who source good factories and monitor quality so you don't get a shock when the goods arrive and are the wrong size etc. Email me if you want to know more (but please only if you are serious....so many dreamers in this section)

Don't import from china, they're communist.

It depends on what you are buying but you actually might be able to get this on eBay. There are many sellers from China and Hong Kong and if you pay using paypal have some protection. The other answers are good as well. I found it to be a pain having to do wire transfers.

Electronic transaction is easier and cost effective since it cuts down transport costs, feeding and accommodation.

It should be safe to buy over the internet provided you go through a trust-worthy third-party sourcing organization. I would NOT contact China suppliers on your own--it's very risky. One reliable third-party organization that people I know have used is Global Sources (www.globalsources.com). They're large, well-known and have contact information for thousands of China companies (broken down into specific product categories).

Global Sources also hosts another site with advice on how to find China suppliers, negotiate with Chinese companies, and so on. It's www.smartchinasourcing.com. Some of the articles posted there now are “Developing Business Relationships with Chinese Factories,” “China Travel Tips for the First-timer,” "Initial Supplier Due Diligence," and “China Payment Terms.” All of the articles are quite interesting and they're all written by experts with long track records of dealing with China exporters.
