it may work, it may not - that's the risk people in business take!
as long as you are committed to making it work and produce a strong business plan there is no reason why you can't make a good go of it.
i started my own business just over 2 years ago and it's the best thing i have ever done, so i'd urge anyone with the opportunity to give it a try!

You need to work on your business model.
First is "what" - can you source the products, store them, and sell them on with sufficient mark-up to make a profit.
Second is "who" - how are you going to find your customers (putting a brass plate on your door saying: Carole's paint and wallpaper won't get them queuing up).
Third is "check out the opposition" - how do you get your customers to buy from you rather than Homebase, without going bust. |

Starting own business is good. But you need to do research before doing any business. Also learn about paintings... The most important things is to put all you mind in your business.

What you have to consider these days that the DIY stores sell these commodities at slightly lower costs than a high street shop (even though sometimes their quality is not so good). Price for this kind of goods is very relevant.Secondly you need to consider where the shop you sell from is situated, because of the heaviness of some of the products you would be selling ie 5ltrs paint etc, your proposed customers wont carry these things very far, they would require near by car park. In my experience, in the town where I live 7 years ago we had three independent shops selling these wares, then a DIY store moved in, two of the shops have gone, the third sells very expensive wallpapers etc which you can't get at the DIY, consequently they only have a small turnover and apparently are just keeping their head above water. I don't wish to put down your idea but these things need to be considered. However if needs be, follow your dream but watch it does not become a nightmare. Best of Luck. |
