My best adavice to you would be to research everything. I am a stay at home mom now as well, only because I did my research. I started my business in November and quit my fulltime job in April. Yes it cost you to start up but you make all that back in 2 parties. I love what I do, I love the fact that I can work when I want, be my own boss, have more time with the family and best of all I have fun, I help woman and couples and make great money. I just want to comment on some of the answers I read here. You don't necessarily need a license; you should check with your State and county offices to determine what you need. Requirements vary depending on where you live.
If you don't want to spend any money than you want a job, not a business. My Mineral Girlz business is free to start and operate, but (in my opinion) I believe people should still spend a little so they have an idea of what they are promoting.
You can make money in the first year and sometimes in the first days, weeks, or months.

There are so many opportunities to start a "real" business. But nobody will offer them to you on a silver platter. The first thing you should do is some research. Learn about yourself - what are your interests, do you have some special skills etc. -, learn what it means to work your own business from your home. It can be a wonderful chance - but to be successful a lot of work and sacrifice is involved. Not only from yourself, from your family too. One thing will be certain - you won't make any money the first years if you want to be successful. Because every cent earned should go back into the business to make it grow.
Sorry when my answer sounds kind of rough. I don't want to destroy your dreams or hopes of having a small homebased business. But in my opinion YOU must have at least a basic idea what kind of business you would like to have. You can't expect that someone who knows nothing about you and your situation - the financial one included - can tell you what business opportunity is the right one for you.
However, I wish you that you will find something you like to do and that you can turn into a successful business. Good luck |

I have been involved with two businesses that were not successful for me personally and now I know what to look for. First and foremost, a company that has been around from more than 5 years. I tried a home based business called BeautiControl (kinda like Avon). They sell what every woman needs and loves (make-up, lotions, bath crystals, body scrubs, etc. Things that you find at Bath & Body Works & The Body Shop). I liked it for the little while I did it. I just had to much on my plate to really pursue it at the time (2 jobs, going to school full-time, and a very controlling boyfriend). The products are amazing and they add new ones all the time. I did a few parties and loved every minute of it. My friends really enjoyed it too because they were pampered. The products sell themselves.
If you go to the website below you can find a local representative in your area. My Unit Manager was awesome. She quit her job and does this full-time. She even got a FREE brand new Mustang outta it and I can't tell you how many trips to Mexico and other places she's be able to go. It's a great way to spend more time with your family.
Or give Avon a try or you can always try being a Mystery Shopper.

Most home businesses do have a small fee but if you go it alone, it could cost you a fortune. I can understand wanting to make money, especially with children (they can sure get expensive). I would consider all your options and if you are skeptical about any of them, you can always check them out with the Better Business Bureau. I sell Home and Garden Party. You do have to buy a kit to get started, but you make that money back with your first party. My sister and me sell it together and have fun doing it. The great thing about Home and Garden is, if you don't like it they will buy your kit back from you in the first year. They are a christian based company and have monthly specials that really help designers make money. You set your own schedule and you decide how much you want to make each month. There are not minimums each month, if you don't have a party that month then you just don't make any extra cash. They will not penalize you for not submitting an order.
