This is going to depend on the type of business and your target market. Internet is no good if your target market is largely people without internet. Without knowing more detail I can't offer you more advice, but work with your local business development center (most towns, even small ones, have some sort) or chamber of commerce and see what tools and/or statistics they have at your disposal.
For example, in my town our government has tried to practice "economic gardening" and encourages small business to come into the community by offering, for free, some very advanced software that can track down your customers and show you where they are in the surrounding areas to better allow you to send out mailings or choose the location of your business. These programs are often called GIS or Geographic Information Systems and cost tens of thousands of dollars to license and operate and are usually available to only large corporations.
Hopefully you can find some resources there, or talk to some professors at a local university offering business or marketing classes and see if they would partner with you to allow their students to work on a project for you.
Aside from all that, the actual method of advertising is almost infinite, but here's what I can think of off the top of my head:
1. direct mail
2. billboard / signage around town
3. internet
4. TV or Radio
5. Word of mouth
6. Fliers
7. sponsorship of events in your target market
8. coupons / promotions / partnerships with other businesses
Also, check on your state or local government's websites to see if they have links to sources that could help you out in your area. Many states have their databases entirely available online and that can greatly speed up the process of filing out forms and such when you're starting your business.
That should get you on a good start. |
